“air duct cleaning facts air duct cleaning needed”

Once cleaning is complete and all components have been replaced, Cyclone Air Systems will not leave your home or office until it is absolutely certain that both the cooling and heating processes are operating properly.
Prior to reading your article, I cleaned my ductwork with a shop vac and it worked really well. The next day I found a piece of ductwork in one of the floor registers. Not sure what to do about it. Any help is much appreciated.

This is my first time taking care of house ,It belong to my sister she is sick.I want to do a good Job.my daughter is  staying with us and the room she’s in is very hot.I need someone who is very good and not so costly. And have great reviews.
I read your article with interest and think it is a good start. One service that is always talked about is fogging ductwork for sanitizing. Many companies offer this service for disinfecting or adding a clean smell to the ductwork. Before any chemical or disinfectant is used, please read the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet). You might be surprise on what you are putting into the air stream. This is a high profit service and should be explored thoroughly before purchasing,
I had my ducts somewhat cleaned December 22, 2014. The hose of the machine the technitian used did not fit in some of my vents, therefore, he did not clean them. But I still paid $428.00 for the service. I will be calling the company on Monday, and kindly ask them to come back and clean the ducts they did not as they did not fullfill their part of the service.
#3 The ONLY time Duct cleaning is needed is when the home had a fire, Bad roof leak on to FIBERGLASS ductwork or house sat vacant for many years with out the air running. And its better to replace than to do “abrasive” duct cleaning. If the duct cleaning has a rotating brush it will remove part of the glue that is holding the Fiberglass in the ducts together, PERIOD no matter how much the say it don’t because the brush is soft.
This top-level cleaning entails the insertion of a Viper Microline into every vent, which forces any debris down the branch lines and into the main trunk lines, where the Viper Clean Sweep System is later utilized to propel everything toward the vacuum. Every inch of the ductwork surface is contacted. Includes before and after photos, and a furnace cleaning. Price covers up to 2500 sq ft. Add $40 for each additional 500 sq ft. Visit our Ultimate Air Duct Cleaning page to learn more or our Book Now page to schedule online.
Another sign of dirty air ducts is when your collaborators and general staff come complaining of respiratory irritation or an increase in allergies when they are inside the building. So, pay attention to these symptoms because most probably you have to call experts to perform commercial HVAC maintenance on air ducts.
Professional duct cleaning services use specialized blowers, vacuums, and brushes to clean out the supply, intake, and return ducts throughout your home. Duct cleaning should also involve a thorough cleaning of the air handler, registers, grilles, fans, motors, housings, and coils of the HVAC system.
Save money by grouping services. Purchase one service and receive $30 off every additional service performed on the same visit. This discount is not available with promotional voucher pricing, or on products (Oxine, chimney caps, refrigerant).
The Indoor Air Quality market has been in a boom in the last few years, as more people are aware of the germs and allergens that persist in their homes. What most contractors do not know is the massive potential to tap into an open market and opportunity to generate more revenue or start a new division of their existing hvac or carpet cleaning enterprise.
The duct cleaning was great. I also ordered hookups of my washer and dryer with A1 in Beaverton, OR which was to include bringing new supply lines and a drain hose for the washer. After verifying twice this would be done with A1 on their direct office line, they called the day of the install to say they didn’t do hoses and didn’t have them. So, I don’t have a working laundry in my house until I get the hoses myself. Why did they say they could do it? What a let down.
There’s no research at present proving that routine duct cleaning improves the air quality or reduces dust in your home. There is, however, evidence that dirty heating and cooling coils, motors, and air handling units can make your HVAC unit less efficient.
The cleaning of air ducts is accomplished with the use of a variety of tools, usually consisting of the combination of a high-powered vacuum and an array of agitators (to loosen debris) and air wands and snakes (to move it to the desired end point). The specific air duct cleaning tools used will depend on the level of cleaning needed. In homes whose ducts are cleaned regularly, an industrial vacuum in the main trunk lines and air wands utilized at each vent may suffice, but more often than not, an agitator such as a tentacled air whip or rotating brush is needed. When an extreme cleaning is necessary or desired, such as in the case of transite ducts, or when drywall dust is present, an agitator such as the Viper Microline is utilized in every vent.
Heavy duty air duct whip used to clean out your vents or return with compressed air. Easily connects with a air hose to a compressor. It requires at least 90 psi to run efficiently.  Two extra whips a…

HVAC systems carry harmful particulates and promote asthma, hay fever, and allergy symptoms. A clean HVAC system promotes a healthier indoor environment, which contributes to productivity, comfort and a sense of health and well being.
4. Dust contains not only fine dirt, but also dead skin, pet dander, microorganisms from cat litter (toxoplasmosis), and other particulates such as pollen, mold spores, fungi, and even rodent feces. Left to contaminate your HVAC system, it can become a breeding ground for bacteria, mites, and other pests.
I always recommend Matt at Rainbow. I’ve received multiple compliments from my insured’s letting me know what a great job they have done, and how quickly they were able to get the job done. I highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a fast, honest, & reliable restoration contractor.

In some older homes, there was a grey Mylar flexible duct. After years of use, it started to decompose. A duct cleaning company can come out and find why your air is so dirty and why your building doesn’t heat or cool like it to. This is a savings on your part. You could also be sucking in Hot, dirty attic air. However, sometimes when a duct cleaning company comes out to clean it, the old duct can be destroyed and have to be replaced. Someone with little experience can replace this ductwork but if it isn’t done right it can ruin a lot of things and cost a lot in repairs.
More in-depth analysis of air cleaners is available in the EPA technical document “Residential Air Cleaners (Second Edition) A Summary of Available Information – Printable Version” EPA 402-F-09-002, Revised August 2009
Do not allow them to use steam because this introduces unneeded moisture into your air conditioning system, and although the moisture on the airflow side of your ducts will soon evaporate, steamers will also blow moisture into areas that do not receive air circulation (joints, etc.) which is a recipe for mold growth.  Don’t allow unnatural moisture into your HVAC system.  Take a look at: How Do You Prevent Mold?
I have been a plumbing/gas/hvac tech for 19 years, before that I installed ductwork in commercial buildings and office towers. As the article states, unless you have undergone some type of extensive reno, or ducts have become contaminated, paying for cleaning is pointless. Its one thing if you have a 30 year old home that has never had a duct cleaning and you can actually see mounds of dust built up , especially in the return side, then go for it. Keep in mind that most duct cleaning companies will only get 80% of the dust , or less at best. Keep in mind that most of the dust in your home is lint from clothes and linens, and skin cells from you and your pets and is constantly being generated. Dust that builds up in ductwork , generally stays in the ductwork. The power of suggestion, scare tactics, up sell!!!

With 2 dogs and lots of dirt outside, you can only imagine the build up in those air ducts over the years. We actually are putting in a new furnace so we are hiring a pro to do it…but now I know what to watch for. Great tutorial and congrats on being Hub of the Day! Wow! Voted very UP and useful.
What if you move into a 20 year old house and find that the people who owned it previously NEVER replaced the filter? It was so dirty that the HVAC system did not work at all. For most people – duct cleaning is NOT a waste of time or money. You must not have allergies. I have very bad ones plus asthma. It makes it very hard for me if I don’t get it done every few years. By the way – the ducts get dusty just sitting there – especially without air going through them. Dust settles on them just like it does the furniture.
If your facility uses a clothes dryer, you may have a fire hazard without realizing it. Lint buildup increases risk of fire and reduces the efficiency of your dryer. This costs not only time spent working, but also increases the electric bill.
Have you noticed little wisps of dust puffing out from an air duct every time you turn on your home’s heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system? Have you seen dust or pet hair trapped in a vent? Is there dust coating the grill on the return air registers? These might be indications that your home’s duct work might be due for a thorough cleaning.
According to the National Air Duct Cleaner’s Association (NADCA), a typical six-room home creates over 40 pounds of dust annually through everyday living. In addition, the typical family generates a great deal of contaminants and air pollutants such as dander, dirt and chemicals. These contaminants are pulled into the HVAC system and re-circulated 50 to 70 times per day on average. Over time, this re-circulation can cause a build-up of contaminants in the air duct work. **Do they clean the Air Handler Unit or Furnace? The most important part of your HVAC system is the Air Handler Unit. Will the company you call clean the air handler unit? (Blower, coils, insulation, drainpan)?
I have severe allergies and a son with asthma, we both were suffering with breathing issues after we moved into an older home in CNY. I called around and got a couple estimates for Air Duct Cleaning and went with Home Enhancement Solutions. Very courteous and professional, they cleaned every nook and corner of the duct work, all the vents and covers, the furnace and blower. They even showed me some of the stuff they pulled out, gross… but we are both breathing better. I will be having this done every year even though they said it may not be necessary to clean, but they will come back in a year and check for free. Highly recommend these guys to anyone that needs this done.
Over time, algae and mold can build up and potentially plug the drain, so if the drain is either not flowing or flowing very slowly, it will need to be unplugged. A plugged drain can either cause damage by flooding onto the floor or, if the system is equipped with a drain float, cause the system to stop cooling in order to avoid flooding.
Routine, professional duct cleaning can reduce exposure to allergens, pollutants, and even airborne illness. As an added bonus, regular cleanings will also improve HVAC efficiency, reducing your energy bill.
If you are replacing your air conditioning system, make sure that the unit is the proper size for your needs and that all ducts are sealed at the joints. A unit that is too big will cycle on and off frequently, resulting in poor moisture removal, particularly in areas with high humidity. Also make sure that your new system is designed to manage condensation effectively.
A small number of products are currently registered by EPA specifically for use on the inside of bare sheet metal air ducts. A number of products are also registered for use as sanitizers on hard surfaces, which could include the interior of bare sheet metal ducts. While many such products may be used legally inside of unlined ducts if all label directions are followed, some of the directions on the label may be inappropriate for use in ducts. For example, if the directions indicate “rinse with water”, the added moisture could stimulate mold growth.
However, duct cleaning is not always necessary. SERVPRO Franchise Professionals will make recommendations about the best way to address any indoor air quality concerns. This can save you money and provide peace of mind on the health of your system.
Small amounts of mold growth inside an HVAC system is not unusual. Evaporation coils and around vents are the most common areas for mold growth. Ducts in need of repair, or a system not operating properly, are usually the cause. Dalworth offers an optional sanitizing treatment to address minor mold and bacterial issues. More serious mold contamination is a completely different issue. Mold contamination of the duct system requires the attention of an Industrial Hygienist prior to any attempt to clean or remove.

A complete and in-depth cleaning requires us to go into every room that contains an air duct or cold-air return. At Alpine, the work will not begin until the floors, doorways and outside wall corners are protected. Slip-on shoe covers, floor tarps and plastic corner guards create a barrier between our equipment and your home.
Joshua and Andre, Orlando did such outstanding work in my house, that I’m going to recommend their services to everyone in our sub division on our list sevre. I was very impressed with the manner and which they was so careful to keep my light carpets clean. And when Joshua showed me the condition inside my furnace I was. Wry concerned because has been doing a very bad job servicing my furnace twice a year for the last 5 years. Please thank your technicians very much on my behalf.

Cleaning ducts and vents generally costs between $263 and $472, but as with many services, the bigger and dirtier the project, the more you’ll need to pay. When a professional comes to assess the needs of your system, they will consider:
3.         Access openings are cut into the main trunk duct work in strategic locations. Don’t worry; this is normal and allows us to properly remove the debris from your system. These access openings are large enough to accommodate our vacuum hoses, which start at 10″ in diameter. This is done as applicable. If ductwork is not accessible, we open up the HVAC system to access the plenums or areas of the main duct work.
How exactly do you expect to kill or remove mold without it ? You can’t even clean your hvac systems coils without moisture of some type ,if you use a steam cleaner you can literally clean the whole system minus the electronics . You should do more research and possibly talk to people who do the work before posting , but don’t listen to me i only have a class A contractor license ,epa license , install /repair hvacs , rent and flip houses for a living .

Air duct cleaning is not a scam, It is a matter of hiring the right company to do the job. It has been proven by many reputable sources that air duct cleaning is necessary to improve indoor air quality. Before you hire an air duct cleaning company make sure to ask them if you can obtain some before/after footage of their previous projects.
As a homeowner and an owner of rental property I can tell you that the air ducts sometimes need to be cleaned. If you have had pets or anyone smoking in your home (even a visitor) for any length of time, having the ducts cleaned is really good idea. I had a tenant who did not smoke, but got married to a smoker more than year after moving in. When I realized someone was smoking I had them move out, but the smell was awful. I had the ducts cleaned and sanitized (it was a bit extra). The ducts were shiny like new afterwards. I left the windows open for a few days and we cleaned the place super clean and then replaced the carpets. The duct cleaning was worth every penny because the house looked, smelled, and felt new afterward. I plan to have my own house ducts cleaned again this year as we have two cats. We had them cleaned about 12 years ago and they found building materials in the ducts! If you move into a house that has never had them cleaned, it is good to do it. If you have allergies, clean the ducts to see if it helps. You never know what is in your ducts if you have never had them cleaned.
Furnace cleaners are mostly young men, I know this, I have been for 15 years or so……so heres the truth, if there are any allergies, children, older people with health issues, we are GOING to make money. do not tell the company you have hired about any health complication. they are salesmen. and they don’t care about you. or your money. make sure they do a good job, then kick them out. you don’t need all the bells and whistles they wanna sell you. any idiot can clean duct work, like I said, I am one of them. I am very good at it, but I don’t have the back bone to sell a widowed old lady a humidifier that she doesn’t need for 500 bucks, overall, if you think you need this service done, which you probably don’t, get it done, do not spend anything over 300$ and do not do it again for at least ten years.

I would happily recommend Mr. Duct. The technicians were prompt, respectful of our home and were very careful not to drag or pull their heavy equipment on our wood and marble floors. They took all our dust with them. I had an excellent nights’s sleep knowing I wasn’t breathing furnace dust. I will hire them again next year.
Vinick says he’s encountered much anecdotal evidence of the benefits of air duct cleaning. “You could ask the tens of thousands of customers that I’ve had in 26 years about their improved energy consumption and healthy home environment,” he says.

WELL, this summer when I opened them up we had black dust spewing from one of the upstairs vents. It resembled the fuzz that comes off new towels. This prompted us to look into duct cleaning. We heard from someone who had it done several times, said it was worthwhile, and knew of a firm that did a good job. Clean Air America sent a single technician for the appointment and after counting registers and ducts gave me a price of $360.00 which included “sanitizing” the system (a $99 additional fee per can used). The small size of the plenum forced him to connect the 8” round vacuum hose from the truck to 10” square opening from our humidifier unit. In hindsight, a mistake since it reduced the “negative” pressure in the system.
The majority of good air duct cleaning companies use outdoor vented equipment, so all of the dust and debris they capture is vented and contained outside the home. A duct cleaner who uses inferior equipment can actually cause more harm by agitating and releasing more dust into your home, or worse, damaging your ductwork.
This step is completed with the removal of the furnace panels and cleaning of the blower fan, combustion chamber, electric motor and cabinet. We use vacuum and compressed air. The furnace is inspected to make sure everything is running efficient and safely.

I purchased one of those Amazon air duct cleaning coupons for 49.99. When the company showed up, they removed the vent closest to the air intake and immediately told me I needed $1800.00 for all new duct work. They said they could not clean the system until new duct work was installed. I thanked them and said I would give them a call. The only call I made was to Amazon to get a refund. I know I didn’t need new duct work. Be careful to not fall for unscrupulous salesmen and their pitches and scare tactics.

Equipment used to clean ducts varies widely. The cheaper the equipment used the more you are just wasting money. This is why it’s typically not worth doing. In some situations it may be beneficial, but only after determining and investigating the duct system. This should be done by a licensed HVAC contractor and not a duct cleaner that typically do not hold and HVAC license. (Duct cleaners aren’t required to be licensed in HVAC in many areas.)
At Better Air, we specialize in HVAC duct cleaning services and dryer vent cleaning services. As a duct cleaning company, our professionals treat your duct work with care, not as a mere afterthought like some HVAC duct cleaning companies and technicians.
Before we start to clean your air ducts, we will run a special camera through your ventilation system so that you can see the condition of your system before our cleaning. Once finished, you can see the difference with your own eyes as we run our camera through once more so you can see the before & after results.

I have been an Indoor Air Quality Investigator and HVAC abatement contractor for 32 years. These so called “duct cleaners”, in many cases, are scam artists at best, and some ,(in my opinion), should go to jail.
yes get a good company and pay the price, I found so much dust and dirt and wood and paint chips and bugs and even bottle caps in my ductwork. I hired a major plumbing company who cleaned ductwork and i will say they did an excellent job cleaning my vent. they did miss one point in my ductwork because i still started to see dust all over my furniture and i realized that my retunduct work that was connected with a piece of sheet metal beam which was 16″ across , the contractor that built my condo used a 16″ wide sheet of sheet metal to connect the vent system to my return for the air to return back into my condo. The contractor should have built a 8″ x16″ square duct by 6 feet long to connect my intake to my return instead of using a sheet of sheet metal 16″ wide by using two 3′ sections by 16 inches wide. That was a shor cut which caused a major problem fir me.

Last week I had my carpets cleaned. The guy offered to look at my ducts and HVAC unit to see if it needed cleaning. Of course he said it needed cleaning. I will say the blower unit did look bad. So I took the plunge and paid about 600 USD for carpets and ducts. The guy even “gave” me 2 free ducts.
Cesar and Dennis were very professional in my home and did well with the job. They kept me in the loop the entire process by showing pictures of the vents and explaining everything. I feel bad they had a long day since my home was the last job of the day so I gave them a pop for the road! Good job!
Most people are now aware that indoor air pollution is an issue of growing concern and increased visibility. Many companies are marketing products and services intended to improve the quality of your indoor air. You have probably seen an advertisement, received a coupon in the mail, or been approached directly by a company offering to clean your air ducts as a means of improving your home’s indoor air quality. These services typically — but not always — range in cost from $450 to $1,000 per heating and cooling system, depending on:
Cleaning the air ducts in your home increases air flow within the system, helping to improve the efficiency of the HVAC system by distributing air throughout the house more quickly and with less effort. Regular cleaning of the air ducts also minimizes dust and debris entering the furnace, thereby helping to prevent clogging of the unit.
I have been told I need to replace my duct work. Air conditioner froze up, duckwork was full of water, and they had to pierce it to release it. They want $550 to replace. I live in a modular home with crawl space underneath.
“Got a phone estimate with the details of work that would be performed. They were punctual, cordial, and professional. Very careful around the house and cleaned up afterwards. Couldn’t ask for better service.”

The time for the service given to me was between 12 and 6PM. The technician’s arrived at 10AM, and also I didn’t receive any prior notification that they are arriving early. That was a major inconvenience, although the technicians were very understanding and courteous. Somebody in the administration surely goofed up. Not expected from SEARS!
Most experts, including the EPA, have not endorsed air duct cleaning as a remedy for health issues, but cleaners say they’ve amassed a growing body of anecdotal evidence that it does provide some benefit.
A family owned and operated company, Armstrong Hearth and Home has been a leading provider of air duct cleaning services since 1965. We are a National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) member company and follow NADCA’s stringent cleaning standards. Higher efficiency filters with a MERV of 14 16, sometimes misidentified as HEPA filters, are similar in appearance to true HEPA filters, which have MERV values of 17 to 20. True HEPA filters are normally not installed in residential HVAC systems; installation of a HEPA filter in an existing HVAC system would probably require professional modification of the system. A typical residential air handling unit and the associated ductwork would not be able to accommodate such filters because of their physical dimensions and increase in airflow resistance.
Improved air quality begins with the lungs of your home. Your air ducts are that hidden room in your house, and the air you breathe may be passing through dirt, dust, and debris. Whether you suffer from sinus and allergy problems, have a new baby in the home, notice a lot of dust, or simply want to breathe cleaner air, calling DuctMedic is a first step to healthier living and a cleaner home.

9.         Once all vents are cleaned, we clean the main trunk ducts. We start at the far end of the trunk duct, away from the vacuum. Typically, all trunk ducts are mechanically brushed, air-whipped, and air-washed. The brushing and cleaning method is dictated by the construction of your duct system. Every home is different, so different tools are used to accommodate this. All the agitated material is caught in the air stream of the vacuum and sent down the line. If your main trunk duct is accessible, we typically install duct access every 15 to 20 feet to make sure we are removing EVERYTHING from the duct system.

Venice warns homeowners to beware of air duct cleaning scams, especially the sort where unscrupulous cleaners offer a $49 special deal but start piling on extra fees. “It’s a bait and switch scam where they say they’ll offer unlimited cleaning, but then they throw around terms you might not understand, such as extra fees for a ‘main duct line,’” he says. “And many times, these cleaners end up walking out the door with twice the amount of money a reputable duct cleaner would charge. They’ve gotten very sophisticated at upselling.”

“air duct cleaning services near me air duct cleaning how does it work”

We were surprised that our $99.00 air duct cleaning turned into a $350 ADDITIONAL cleaning of our system. While we understood the reasoning behind the cleaning, we do not understand why it cost so much since we watched them spray an aerosol chemical that was supposed to “melt” the dirt. We would likely look for a cheaper alternative next time, however the guys that came seemed to have done a good job.

Armstrong is serious when it comes to knowledge and training.  That’s why all of our technicians attend weekly training sessions and acquire certificaitions from NADCA (The National Air Duct Cleaners Association).
HVAC duct cleaning is as much a scam as fuel injector cleaning in automobiles. There is no discernible improvement in quality from either except it makes money for the people who sell you the service. Just use quality filters and change often, and use quality gas (Shell, Chevron) and you will do just fine.
The EPA says indoor air can contain 70 times the pollutants of outdoor air, often because of dirty air ducts. We’re the experts in air quality, dedicated to ensuring your family is breathing cleaner air. You’ll save money too with your HVAC systems running at peak efficiency.
Everything went smoothly. One thing that would help would be for the payment to be clear before the visit. I did elect to have a deodorant application and I would have preferred to have the charge explained prior to the visit.
This is my 2nd time using Mr. Duct and they are my go-to for spring A/C cleaning as well as fall furnace servicing/cleaning. Always on time, friendly and knowledgeable technicians. Reliable and trusted service.
I just lost a big job to a company that convinced the homeowner they could clean 3 Air Handler Units, 30 Supply Vents, 6 Return Lines and “Sanitize” the system for a total of $350.00. Not per unit – total cost!
At $39 will admit (after asking them several times) that they typically use an electric-powered shop vacuum to clean your ducts. You might wonder how a shop vacuum can remove possibly several pounds of grime?
I have been told I need to replace my duct work. Air conditioner froze up, duckwork was full of water, and they had to pierce it to release it. They want $550 to replace. I live in a modular home with crawl space underneath.
Hello, I read your comment and I know it was two years ago but I hope you see my message. I am trying to figure out what to do as I was told that there is some cat odor in the finished basement. I think with the air conditioning running that it may carry odor. The litter boxes are always kept clean. I wonder if odor can be trapped in the ducts, if Air Duct Cleaning could help, but it is quite expensive plus I’m concerned that it may not help. Please elaborate as to why you think it doesn’t work that well. Do you have any other advise? Did you work in the field of Air Duct Cleaning? Thanks so much!
Not all lint is caught by your lint screen. Some of it is pushed through your dryer vent where the highly-flammable material catches and sticks in the crevices. Regular dryer vent cleaning removes all of the lint and clothing fibers from your dryer vent.
The areas you could not reach with the steps above are not likely to contain a lot of dust and dirt. However, if you are determined to clean every place can, there are a couple more things you can do.
I lived in this apartment. For 22 months and when I moved out the had the air ducts cleaned and billed me for the cost. I am curious who should be responsible for doing this and what reasons would they have for this being my responsibility.
Mr. Duct is the number one expert in air duct cleaning: we had called another company out because, truthfully, their pricing was lower, but boy did it jump when they got to the house! Mr. Duct’s estimate was the same as the one given over the phone and we’re happy with the work.
The air duct cleaning system Sears technicians employ is among the most powerful air duct cleaning systems on the market today. Our cleaning system applies to nearly any air duct system found in homes today. The techniques and methods our staff utilize are the result of careful training to operate their equipment safely and consistently with the guidelines set by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA).
To find companies that provide duct cleaning services, check your Yellow Pages under “duct cleaning” or contact the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) at the address and phone number in the information section located at the end of this guidance. Do not assume that all duct cleaning service providers are equally knowledgeable and responsible. Talk to at least three different service providers and get written estimates before deciding whether to have your ducts cleaned. When the service providers come to your home, ask them to show you the contamination that would justify having your ducts cleaned.

Homeowners who are having their ducts and vents cleaned can also opt to take advantage of other services offered by local cleaning companies. For example, Airclips Services on Ableta Boulevard also offers house cleaning services, bathroom and kitchen designing, and thermostat installation. D’s Enterprise, based out of nearby Wylie, also offers central air conditioning, gas furnace, electric furnace, and heat pump repair. These additional services can add several hundred dollars to the final bill. Dallas cleaning services average $149, while other repairs vary depending on the scope of the job.
I paid $49 for a groupon. When the guy came today, he did an inspection first and said the ductwork needed to be treated for mold; $348 for a spray that would last 8 months or $680 for an UV light purifier that would last 2 years. Also, the furnace needed to be cleaned for another $260. When I told him to just clean the ductwork, he said I would owe an additional $305 because the groupon was only good for 1 return and I had 2. I sent him packing with no services performed. Thankfully I am only out of $49! I will complain to groupon.
The diversity of Dallas’s neighborhoods and suburbs makes it easy for residents to find a perfect spot to call home. From the quaint, historic vibe of the West End Historic District to the stellar schools located in the suburbs, the area offers something for everyone. Some of the city’s most popular locales cater to specific populations. Home prices vary across the different areas, with some of the most affordable options located in the suburbs.
I’ve talked to many homeowners who have been victimized by these scams. Even the ones who don’t succumb to the high-pressure techniques are still frequently wronged, as these lowball companies often use inadequate tools and equipment — such as handheld vacuums and drills — to do the work. They quickly go through the house, vacuuming out a few vents, and are gone in less than 30 minutes. A legitimate air duct cleaning should take three to four hours to complete, according to reputable duct cleaning companies that I’ve spoken to.
NADCA Certified Duct Cleaners: The National Air Duct Cleaners Association is an organization of air duct cleaning companies that are dedicated to higher standards of quality and ethical practices in their business. Four Seasons goes the extra mile to meet or exceed the standards set forth by NADCA, and we only hire NADCA certified Duct Cleaning Specialists.

• A good duct cleaning costs between $400 and $1,000 and addresses every aspect of the system that air passes over, including the furnace, air coils and central system. Good cleaners will use negative air machines with HEPA filters.
1. Ducts need cleaning mostly because they were not installed properly. There should be regulatory inpection and approval of clean and proper duct works on new houses. I was extremely unpset when I looked and found significant amounts of construction dust in parts of the ducts in my new house. There is apparently no way to hold the bullder to be responsible for clean ducts.
In addition, the black dust was found in most of the heat registers. He could rub it off on his fingers but did nothing but spray compressed air on it which didn’t make it disappear since it wasn’t loose. Also, in the register in the basement he described the black dust as being oily. The reality of that situation is that I had the AC on until the morning of the service and minutes after he snaked the hoses in my back door it started raining. The basement register had condensation from the humidity all over it. It was not oily but wet. He asked for an old towel and wiped it out. Never saw anything so black – because I never had to clean soot. That is what I have in my ducts. Soot from years of the old coal furnace.

I had someone out to clean my ducts last weekend. He took a blue bag up in my attic. He came back down in just a few minutes and said I had mold and he even showed me a picture of something saying it was mold but I couldn’t really tell. I refused his service to take care of the mold. He went back up in the attic for a little while and then came down. I never heard any sounds that he was actually up there doing anything. How do I know if he actually cleaned the air ducts?
Ultimately, cleaning the ducts of your HVAC system is not a do-it-yourself project. And it’s certainly not a job for a cheap guy with an air compressor in a minivan, either. A thorough cleaning can only be performed by using industry-standard equipment designed to handle the size and volume of all kinds of homes. That’s why you can trust the trained professionals of Direct Energy.
I have been in the IAQ field for 30 years and have seen it all. I’ve used truck mounted equipment, portable equipment ( the general ) and portable hepa vac equipment with 3500 cfm to 5000 cfm, can suck up a 16 lbs bowling ball. With all this suction power you would think that a little dust in the duct would be no problem. The National air duct association states that without agitation ( rotary brushes) the dust will still be adhered to the inside surface of the duct. So I guess what I’m saying is that Nadca certification is key along with the proper procedures.Consumers can go to the NADCA Website for more great information.
A house breathes just like you an I.For example every time your clothes dryer comes on it automatically creates a negative pressure inside the home.So if air goes out of the living area it has to be replaced…..now look above the ceiling fan ….you see the cover…underneath that is a hole straight to your attic….Now the stuff on your ceiling fan you call dust…call it insulation, rat fecies or anything else that is in your attic that could be pulled in your due to a negative pressure.
Get several estimates, and be sure you understand the specific work covered by each company’s quote. Ask about the service providers’ training and experience. If disinfectant spraying is recommended, ask for a clear explanation of the pros and cons of this treatment in your particular circumstances. Request and check references, and ask if the service provider holds any relevant state licenses. See if there are any complaints with the Better Business Bureau[9] .
I have worked with dozens of HVAC companies over the years as an operations and sales consultant. Duct cleaning is one of the lowest-risk highest-profit services an HVAC company can offer, and it is almost always a completely unnecessary waste of a homeowner’s money. Period, end of story.

We are certified by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA). The NADCA protocol is set to protect consumers against “blow-and-go” companies who use inadequate equipment and methods. Periodic cleaning of your home’s HVAC system can help to prevent the accumulation of pet dander, allergens, construction debris, and other dirt particulates within your heating and cooling system.
3-Put them all in the bathtub in warm water. Add a few drops of dish soap to the water and let the bubbles build up. The dish soap will help cut in grease and grime that has built up on the vents. Let the vents soak for about 10 minutes.
The key to the continued and efficient operation of your heating and cooling system is periodic maintenance. Cleaning the air duct vent system, and servicing you heating and cooling equipment will keep the system operating at its peak performance. Air ducts are cleaned for two reasons. One: to prevent debris from entering furnace and air conditioning components. Two: to prevent debris from cycling through the home. The air duct cleaning contractor needs to employ cleaning methods which successfully removes debris, and ensures that debris does not enter the space. Most contractors can verify the results of the cleaning through video or pictures.
The Environmental Protection Agency says that “duct cleaning services typically – but not always – range in cost from $450 to $1000 per heating and cooling system, depending on the services offered, the size of the system to be cleaned, system accessibility, climactic region, and level of contamination” and type of duct material. Consumers should beware of air duct cleaning companies that making sweeping claims about the health benefits of duct cleaning – such claims are unsubstantiated. Consumers should also beware of “blow-and-go” air duct cleaning companies. These companies often charge a nominal fee and do a poor job of cleaning the heating and cooling system. These companies may also persuade the consumer into unneeded services with and/or without their permission. (If you have knowledge of a practicing “blow-and-go” air duct cleaner, contact your local Better Business Bureau to report the company, and your local, federal, and state elected officials to demand legislation.)
Unless you have mold or some sudden illness you think might be related to the ducts, better leave well enough alone. I regret using a coupon for a $69 heating service “tune up”. The only substantial thing I noticed is them replacing the furnace filter with one of MY filters next to the furnace, and I had replace it less than a month prior.
Please record the sales pitch you receive and post it up here. I’ve heard such stories about the coupon deals (either not showing up or hard selling upgrades), it would be great to hear how it goes for you.
When we think of pollution, we often think of smoking factories and hazy outdoor air. However, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has found that levels of some hazardous pollutants in indoor air are as high as 70 times greater than in outdoor air. We are discovering that indoor air pollution causes allergies, asthma and even more serious illnesses.

Violet Shrop – Thank you and no. You don’t want the power off while cleaning registers…you want the fan running. Now once you get to the furnace itself, at the end and you’re ready to change the filter and wrap up…yes. Turn off the power.
A year and a half ago (fall of 2015) we replaced the furnace and air conditioner. From what we could determine this was the third forced air furnace and second air conditioner unit for the house. As part of the installation, we changed out the two 6″ ducts feeding the second floor with 8″ ducts. The idea was to get more cold air to the second floor in the summer. It worked and for the first time the second floor and first floor temperatures were the same when the air conditioner was running. Of course, to make the system work I close down upstairs duct damper doors in the winter and open them up in the summer.

As a professional Gas Technician that’s owns a HVAC/DUCT cleaning company you were taken advantage of. My cost for your home would have been $450 plus tax. Ozone generators use UV light or an electrical discharge to intentionally produce ozone. Ozone is a lung irritant that can cause adverse health effects. At concentrations that do not exceed public health standards, ozone has little effect in removing most indoor air contaminants. Thus, ozone generators are not always safe and effective in controlling indoor air pollutants. Consumers should instead use methods proven to be both safe and effective to reduce pollutant concentrations, which include eliminating or controlling pollutant sources and increasing outdoor air ventilation.

If there is stuff in the ducts, the fact that it’s laying there and not being blown into the rooms is proof positive that it is hurting no-one. The 5-6 exceptions you cite in this article I’ll buy, but only with the caveat that at least some of those could have been avoided by proper protection (during remodeling for example) – and if asbestos/lead/whatever winds up in your ducts- the remodeling contractor should be the one paying to remove it.
More in-depth analysis of air cleaners is available in the EPA technical document “Residential Air Cleaners (Second Edition) A Summary of Available Information – Printable Version” EPA 402-F-09-002, Revised August 2009
The workers showed me the vacuum prior to and after the completed work. Once the cleaning process was complete, the vacuum had a huge pile of dust inside. The cleaning gave me peace of mind just knowing the air I was breathing was rid of the dust the home had been accumulating over the years. I highly recommend duct cleaning as well as this company.
Cleaning a complex air duct system isn’t a job for a carpet cleaning machine or shop vacuum. Our “Van Mounted”  BIG trucks create the negative air flow needed to remove even the worst contaminants and pull them outside where they belong.
Mr. Duct offers dryer vent cleaning estimates. Dryer vents with long runs often have many bends and pressurized air may not be to move debris out of the line. Our certified technicians will assess the situation for you with an airflow reading, develop a cleaning strategy to remove your debris, and follow up the service with another air flow reading to ensure the debris has been removed.
Use only soft-bristled brushes for fiberglass duct board and sheet metal ducts internally lined with fiberglass. (Although flex duct can also be cleaned using soft-bristled brushes, it can be more economical to simply replace accessible flex duct.)
We’ve pulled out pop bottles, cans, drywall, insulation, toys, tools, paper, food… and tons of dirt, hair and lint! With all that debris plugging up your system, your furnace has to work harder than it should. In fact, 9 out of 10 maintenance calls are a direct result of dirt and dust plugging up the system!
I noticed a lot of negative feedback, though unfortunately there are many dishonest companies out there. I currently work with a company that cleans duct work and we DO NOT use any scare tactics or up sell services or equipment. Once every 10years of course there are exceptions. We clean supply, returns, air handler, housing, motor, and fan. Though be discerning when qualifying anyone to work in your home. I would ask for REAL REFERENCES to contact.
I’m really not convinced that duct cleaning is of any value. My roommate wanted the ducts cleaned so he called some company. My scam senses is already tingling. They came in with a big negative pressure fan. Did some blowing and sucking in different vents. Then they tried to upsell a full system cleaning. They wanted to pull the blower and clean the heat transfer box at $700 per heater unit. I have a big house so we have two units. They also tried to sell us some “custom” $250.00 Air Lifetime air filters. At that point I pulled the BS get the hell out bell. After paying $520.00 for just the cleaning, I paid the bill and sent them on their way. I replaced the existing filter with the good old and cheap paper filters at $10.00 each. Duct cleaning… I’m not Impressed.
Certified by the American Drying Institution, Carpet Tech offers free dryer vent inspections. Any responsible business owner would rest easier knowing they’ve taken a potential fire hazard into consideration and reduced their energy consumption.
Our technicians work quickly but thoroughly to minimize any inconvenience to you. They use powerful tools designed to complete the job much sooner than you may expect, with results that have pleased thousands of customers.
Good question. Common sense dictates that even an extra-long hose cannot physically reach the entire length of a 20-ft. air duct. And a small, low-powered hose will not suck up large debris. No wonder they only charge $39. You get what you pay for.
My first thought is that you have underground duct work. If so, there are various ways to address that but I’m not real familiar with them. If you don’t then I’m still not sure what that could be. If you’re in heating season, some furnaces will smell bad because the heat exchanger is bad and if so, you need to consider a new system if you’re not under warranty. Note: Many heat exchangers have rather long warranties. 20 years…maybe lifetime.

However, both EPA and the National Air Duct Cleaners Association — which represents more than 1,000 cleaning companies nationwide — agree there’s some benefit in cleaning debris from ducts, furnaces, central air conditioners and ventilation.
Before we start to clean your air ducts, we will run a special camera through your ventilation system so that you can see the condition of your system before our cleaning. Once finished, you can see the difference with your own eyes as we run our camera through once more so you can see the before & after results.
This hub comes just in time for me. I was about to seal up all the duct-work in my basement. You have convinced me that I should take advantage of this time to do some cleaning first. Thanks for a great hub!

We bought an older mobile home over a year ago. I bought a wet dry vac and it didn’t have enough suction power to vacuum the floor duct. The return air is disconnected. I run window a.c. units and have just floor heat. There are blockages in the duct. So, is a shop vac better than wet/dry vac? I need heat desperately before winter arrives.
You have covered all necessary points on your blog. Dirty ducts blow dust, lint and other debris into every room of your home but sometimes you have to call professional for all duct cleaning services.
Linda Wetzel of Shaker Heights, Ohio, says she was skeptical about air duct cleaning until a friend told her it had improved her allergies. “I figured common sense said, if there’s dust on the table, there has to be dust in the vents,” Wetzel says.
I just bought a home, and the sellers clearly never had the air ducts cleaned. This is, unfortunately, typical of their neglect of the home, so I am not surprised. I was cleaning around the wooden floor registers, and I took the registers off. I found nests of some sort…all kinds of really gross stuff!! I am calling now to schedule duct cleaning for my new home. Anyway, it is very easy to check to see if you really need duct cleaning. Remove the floor registers and use a flashlight if necessary to see if there is dust or debris in the ducting. If these look bad, I’d definitely have the system cleaned. I would also do it after a construction project, after installing a new furnace, etc. I have found that once I had my previous system cleaned, it seemed to remain spotless for 3 years. So it seems that if you just change your filters on time (I have an iPhone alert set for every 3 months), the system will stay clean for years. Hope this helps!
Do not hire duct cleaners who make sweeping claims about the health benefits of duct cleaning — such claims are unsubstantiated. Do not hire duct cleaners who recommend duct cleaning as a routine part of your heating and cooling system maintenance. You should also be wary of duct cleaners who claim to be certified by EPA. Note: EPA neither establishes duct cleaning standards nor certifies, endorses, or approves duct cleaning companies.
You may be familiar with air ducts that are constructed of sheet metal. However, many modern residential air duct systems are constructed of fiber glass duct board or sheet metal ducts that are lined on the inside with fiber glass duct liner. Since the early 1970’s, a significant increase in the use of flexible duct, which generally is internally lined with plastic or some other type of material, has occurred.
Having evaporator and condenser coils cleaned could cost between $100 and $400. If your coils can be accessed in-place, you’ll be looking at a lower service cost. If your technician needs to remove the them first, the cost should be around $400. Having the evaporator and condenser coils cleaned can have a significant impact on the efficiency of your system. If your coils are excessively dirty, they won’t be able to do their job and your system will have to work harder. Keeping up with the hygiene of these components can save you money in both the short and long-term. For example, replacing evaporator coils can cost anywhere from $650 to $1200.
Both technicians were very curteous and friendly. I especially liked the fact that they let me know that I would need to change the air duct soon due to age. I would definitely recommend this service to friends/family.

When we moved into a new condo, we called Mr. Duct out to clean up all the dust that had been left from the previous owners. They showed us a video with the work, which revealed all the gross gunk in the vents, and then proceeded to remove it all. After that video, air duct cleaning has certainly become a staple in house work for us.
I am 79 years old, bought a condo & spent a lot of money on it. this winter my first bill was 450.00. had my furnace checked out, which is on the roof. it was old rusted out & leeking oil. i talked to owner & had new unit installed. they came out to clean ducks & they were split & worn out. there is no crawl space because theres a unit above me. my real estate lady or this company will not help me fix this problem.
We utilize DuctLink — a software that customizes estimates in order to assign exact materials to projects and prevent incorrect boilerplate verbiage — to ensure all work estimates meet NADCA ACR Standards.
Small amounts of mold growth inside an HVAC system is not unusual. Evaporation coils and around vents are the most common areas for mold growth. Ducts in need of repair, or a system not operating properly, are usually the cause. Dalworth offers an optional sanitizing treatment to address minor mold and bacterial issues. More serious mold contamination is a completely different issue. Mold contamination of the duct system requires the attention of an Industrial Hygienist prior to any attempt to clean or remove.
Hi, my home office a/c vent has been blowing out blackish granular particles. It only happens with this particular vent. I’ve read lighting candles tend to do something like this… I do light candles every day. Can someone help me with what I should do? Thanks.
While there are reputable, professional HVAC cleaning services out there, there are scams as well. Anytime scare tactics can be used to make the claim that your home might be “unhealthy,” homeowners run the risk of being frightened into emptying their checkbooks.
lo everyone. I read your Experience. I can say, with good reason since i m an authorized technician of air duck cleaning, that Angie is absolutely right. in order to do a proper cleaning of the ducts serve the means and the proper time. usually for a normal house with a single system the amount payable is between 350 and 550 dollars and the time goes by dirt inside but always not less than 2 hours to clean everything. I regard cupon I can tell you that some are valid and offer the right price for the performance. I also read mold in ducts, before we tell the customer that there is mold perform a test that is analyzed in the laboratory and only after 3 days, with the result of the analysis of paper, inform risk and if the customer is okay proceed with the sanitation of the duct with certified products of the highest quality, just think that the product that we use costs 55 dollars a gallon. but I’m not here to make me adverts, I feel sorry for people who have had bad experiences, I love my job and I try to always do it in a proper manner.
If you don’t agree with duct cleaning, fine. If there are some things that HVAC people can do to make the system need cleaning less often fine, but to suggest that I need to GO TO JAIL????? If you need to knock others to make yourself look better……. If duct cleaning is such a scam, why are their governing bodies like NADCA (which I do NOT belong to),several manufacturers of equipment, and national restoration franchises (I’m not a franchise either) who provide this service? I guess the whole world is stupid and only HVAC people are smart. I suppose I am scamming them when I clean puff backs, water damage, fire damage, and clean their carpets too? Or did I wake up one morning and say “ya know, it is great to be a hard working, honest owner operator, but I would love to provide a service that unlike everything else I do is a con and rips off the 90% referral business I busted my butt to earn”
Both the EPA and the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) warn against companies that make sweeping claims about the health benefits of duct cleaning. The NADCA also cautions consumers about “blow-and-go” air duct cleaners who charge a nominal fee (often offering extremely low-cost coupons) but use substandard equipment, do a poor cleaning job and perform unneeded services at an extra cost. Cleaning fans and coils is mandatory for a properly cleaned system and should never be listed as an “extra cost.” Be wary if the total “cleaning” process will take only an hour or two.
I know it has to have a new concentric venting system installed, I believe it needs new plenums ( mine are rusty but both of these require extra work , so someHVAC persons are saying I do not need either!! RED FLAG THERE. Also, it will need a new drain using PVCP ?? Piping run maybe two, depending on where my evep coil drain is conected (here in TN they use to run them in with the septic lines, now they cannot be run through that way), Lastly I am not where or what these things do beides hold water but I was told It needs a filter rack and new filter base safety pan. THATSSS it that is all I know about this stuff aside from the fact that nothing up there is to code thus far LOL. !!
Both technicians were very curteous and friendly. I especially liked the fact that they let me know that I would need to change the air duct soon due to age. I would definitely recommend this service to friends/family.
The EPA says that indoor air is often many times more polluted than outdoor air. Many of these contaminants get stuck or even grow in the ductwork, possibly getting re-circulated into the air you breathe. According to the EPA, “Contaminated central air handling systems can become breeding grounds for mold, mildew and other sources of biological contaminants and can then distribute these contaminants through the home.”
You’d be surprised as to how much of the dust collects at the blower and just inside the register itself. The rest of the system is likely quite clean and with our knocking, even cleaner now. One could feel free to take apart as much of their duct as they are comfortable with but for the time this could take, I’m not sure it would be worth it unless you are well versed in how to do it efficiently.
Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems have been shown to act as a collection source for a variety of contaminants that have the potential to affect health, such as mold, fungi, bacteria, and very small particles of dust. The removal of such contaminants from the HVAC system and home should be considered as one component in an overall plan to improve indoor air quality.
NADCA recommends at a minimum that an owner, principal, or key employee of a company become a certified ASCS. This individual must be a fulltime employee, be directly responsible for project management and should oversee all air duct cleaning projects. There is no limit to the number of company representatives who can become certified.
Please Note: EPA neither certifies nor recommends particular brands of home air cleaning devices. While some home air cleaning devices may be useful in some circumstances, EPA makes no broad endorsement of their use, nor specific endorsement of any brand or model. This document describes performance characteristics associated with several types of air cleaners sold to consumers for home use. It does not discuss the effectiveness of air cleaners installed in the HVAC systems of large buildings, such as apartments, offices, schools or public buildings.

Concealed behind your walls and mostly ignored, your air ducts serve as vital pathways that deliver warm and cool air throughout your home during the year. While they may be unseen, your air ducts are working nearly year round, whenever you have your air conditioner or heater running. Attached to your HVAC system, air ducts transfer the air from these systems throughout your home. What many homeowners don’t realize, though, is that your air ducts, in nearly constant use, continually accumulate dust, grime, debris, pet dander and allergens throughout the year. In fact, according to National Air Duct Cleaners Association the average American home produces 40 pounds of dust per year! 1
BTW I tell my customers up front that we do not clean anything on the furnace itself and recommend they have their HVAC people come in for that portion. In reading your disingenuous comments I am hoping that I have never sent one of my valued customers to any of you.
Am just writing to say THANK YOU JOHN H. for your well-written, grammatical, and extremely informative comment. I too have an ancient abode which once had an octopus in the basement and now is on a 3rd forced-air gas heater, and have been contemplating having the ducts cleaned, and now am better equipped to make a decision thanks to you.
I’ve read a lot of replies on here and I’m sorry for people’s bad experiences with companies who shouldn’t be cleaning ducts. The only problem I have with the post on Angie’s list is the pricing is a bit low for companies like mine to make a profit. I have owned a NADCA (National Air Duct Cleaners Association) Certified duct cleaning company since 1999. We do residential, hospitals, factories, and commercial buildings. We send a NADCA certified ASCS (Air Systems Cleaning Specialist) and VSMR (Ventilation System Mold Remediators) specialist to every job we do, including residential jobs. It cost us a lot to keep our certifications up, we have to go to classes each year for this. Our prices are higher than the prices Angie’s List stated, but its like the saying goes, you get what you pay for. A home that is 1500 sq ft would take 2 technicians about 4 hours to do the work because most the homes in the area I cover have crawl spaces, and they have to crawl under the house to clean the ductwork. This is 8 total work hours for this job, plus the cost of travel time and gas to get to the jobsite. The cost of the job would be $750. A larger home would be more depending on the size of the house. That is a bit higher than Angie’s list stated, but this covers everything with no hidden cost. And to send 2 qualified people to a job site its going to cost more than 1 guy going in with a shop vac type system and telling the home owner that he doesn’t need to go under the house or in the attic to clean the duct work. We get a lot of jobs going behind these type duct cleaners to fix what they messed up then the home owner is stuck paying 2 companies. One last thing, make sure the person is NADCA certified, and not just say certified. Some of the companies who make shop vac type systems will teach a day and a half class and then give the person a certification saying they can operate that duct machine. This is NOT the same as NADCA certification. NADCA is the only certification recognized by the EPA for cleaning HVAC Duct. Good luck and have a great day.

Bill – The metal shouldn’t hold the smell and you probably won’t be able to clean it all unless you disconnect it so for the time and effort, I’d replace the damaged duct and registers rather than try and clean them.
Mold: If you see mold or other microbial growth on the ductwork, that’s certainly worth addressing. Keep in mind, those substances that appear to be mold should still be confirmed by laboratory analysis. You should also take steps to change conditions in and around the ductwork to prevent future mold growth, such as replacing wet insulation.
This is very helpful…I appreciate the step by step information as well as the pictures. I will pass this along to my son-in-law as I think this is something he will use soon. As a matter of fact, he will probably use it at my house!!! Great job…congrats on the hub of the day too….
Locate the filter enclosure on the indoor furnace/AC where the large fresh air return duct enters the unit. You may need a screwdriver to turn the latch to open the door to the filter enclosure. Remove the old filter and install the new filter, matching the air-flow direction arrows on the filter to the arrows on the unit. Close and latch the door.
At $39 will admit (after asking them several times) that they typically use an electric-powered shop vacuum to clean your ducts. You might wonder how a shop vacuum can remove possibly several pounds of grime?
This article was very good. It should be noted that the EPA building in Washington, DC, was cited years ago as one of the worst “sick building syndrome” buildings. Wish you had mentioned about having people’s dryer vents cleaned since they can cause so many fires in homes. Most homeowners forget to check the air flow on the dryer vent. Our company, which cleans by NADCA standards, does both air ducts and dryer vents. Thanks again for keeping the public informed, especially regarding the cost of air duct cleaning…you get what you pay for…don’t be fooled by the lowest cost out there. Frequently these are bait and switch companies or will keep adding on features they say a customer needs until the price is so high it’s ridiculous.
Accumulation of dirt and debris. Air ducts can collect dust, dirt, moisture and things most of us would rather not see. Hair, bacteria and other matter can gather in ducts and turn pink fiberglass filters into blackened, filthy traps for undesirables. Even pet dander can get caught up in your air ducts, and once that happens, it gets redistributed throughout your home.

“why air duct cleaning air duct cleaning business”

The EPA recommends having the air ducts cleaned only as needed[3] — that is, when there is substantial visible mold growth inside, if the ducts are infested with rodents or insects, or if they’re clogged with excessive amounts of debris.
When we moved into a new condo, we called Mr. Duct out to clean up all the dust that had been left from the previous owners. They showed us a video with the work, which revealed all the gross gunk in the vents, and then proceeded to remove it all. 1. Dirt and dust restrict your HVAC system’s heating and cooling. In the winter, dirt-clogged heat exchangers cannot warm the air as efficiently. In the summer, dirt-clogged condensing coils are unable to cool the air as well. These both increase the HVAC systems run time, requiring it to use more fuel and energy to heat and cool your home.
. Here at AirsoPure we charge 350.00  per furnace and 250 if you have a secondary unit. Please give us a call today if you are still in need of this service 888 723 8287. I hope this helped and please contact us in the future. Happy Holidays
Clean the grilles in your ceiling. If you can’t reach them with the vacuum or screwdriver, use a broom to attack the dust. Remember that if you haven’t cleaned them for a long time, you will want to protect yourself from all the dust and debris that will fall down by wearing a dust mask.
I would definitely need more info than this to help but will say first thing is to check your filter. Also, when is the last time the coils indoor and outdoor were cleaned? If the unit is running proper and you’re not getting air, these are the usual suspects.
Deb – I’ve never been asked about tear gassing nor do I have any experience with it. I would think not. I don’t know that a standard professional duct cleaning would do it either. Maybe call a disaster restoration company and see what they recommend. They handle drug lab clean ups things of that nature so they could probably offer better advice. Thanks for reading.
I have lived in Calgary for quite some time now. When I first moved here I couldn’t stand the humidity levels. Its like a desert come winter. When I first moved into my new home, the house inspector insisted I have my furnace and ducts cleaned. I was very sceptical about duct cleaning to begin with. The company I hired came on time and were very respectable from the start. Before mentioning anything they asked me what my concerns were and what issues I was having. They were more concerned about addressing my issues then bringing anything non related up. I ended up going with this company and getting a humidifier installed a couple days later after the cleaning. Its been almost 4 years now that I have been here. The humidifier is working great and the difference is incredible. They took me around explained step by step what they were doing and the reasons they were doing it. With all those other companies out there, I am glad I found them at this site.
Dear Angie: I’m looking to have my air ducts cleaned but I’ve seen prices vary from $99 to $800. I have not been given an explanation, that I believe, that describes the reason for the price difference. What are your thoughts on the reasons for the wide range of costs? — D.C., Landisville, Pennsylvania.
After hiring an air duct cleaner she found on Angie’s List, Wetzel was very pleased with the results and benefits she experienced. She says she noticed an immediate improvement in air quality — everyone in the house suffered fewer allergies afterward — and the entire HVAC system worked more efficiently.
Ultimately, the decision to clean air ducts comes down to a homeowner’s own judgment. “Look at your filter and see if it’s dirty,” Vinick says. “Take a look inside the return grills and supply ductwork and you’ll be able to tell if you have debris buildup.”
Accumulation of animal matter and debris caused by animal destruction. When animals get into your air ducts, they can store food, defecate and even die inside. Vermin are also known for tearing holes in ducts, which can let in outside contaminants that filter down into your home.

Just a little friendly advice… you should still research a company, just because they have a website doesn’t mean much. You would be surprised at how easy it actually is to build a website. Almost anyone with a minimal amount of computer savvy can build one, or probably knows someone than can build one.
It takes more than a quick brushing to remove the dust, dander and other harmful particles from ductwork. ZEROREZ® uses the most technologically advanced duct cleaning process available. The best part? We can install an air purification and filtration system on the same day.
On the other hand, if family members are experiencing unusual or unexplained symptoms or illnesses that you think might be related to your home environment, you should discuss the situation with your doctor. EPA has published the following publications for guidance on identifying possible indoor air quality problems and ways to prevent or fix them.
Furnace, Duct cleaning and dryer vent cleaning. The crew was excellent, arrived on time, took their time. Explained everything they were doing. I will definitely use them again. And Recommend them to Friends.
Mr. Duct offers dryer vent cleaning estimates. Dryer vents with long runs often have many bends and pressurized air may not be enough to move debris out of the line. Our certified technicians will assess the situation for you with an airflow reading, develop a cleaning strategy to remove your debris, and follow up the service with another air flow reading to ensure the debris has been removed.
NADCA’s certification program certifies individuals, not companies. Certified individuals may use the credential in marketing their own expertise. Certification is not transferable to other individuals.
The areas you could not reach with the steps above are not likely to contain a lot of dust and dirt. However, if you are determined to clean every place you can, there are a couple more things you can do.
If you follow the above four steps, then you will never need to clean your AC ducting.  But what about the conditions recommended by the NADCA for the use of a duct cleaning company?  I’ll spare you my typical, cynical rant about the role that lobbyists play in swaying such organizations, and get to the list.  Let’s take a look at each:
