“air duct cleaning and sanitizing |air duct cleaning cost”

I had a very satifying experience with the technicians doing my air duct cleaning. I knew every little about the process and it was explained very well and understandable. My house was a mess because I was also getting a carpet cleaning the same day, so furniture was moved around for that, some of it was in the way for the tech’s, they moved it and cleaned up after. My air works better and I sure can tell the difference in air quality.THANK YOU very much… Sear’s Your air duct cleaning Technician’s do a wonderful job! I will surely contact SEARS again for cleaning services…
I had my a/c and furnace serviced and cleaned as well as my ducts cleaned and everything went smoothly and for a reasonable price. Evelyn was excellent at keeping me updated on the progress of the work since I wasn’t able to be there in person. Great customer service and speed of scheduling.
Some of the research I have done suggests to your ducts cleaned when you first purchase a new home to remove drywall dust. Maintain your system well and you shouldn’t have to do it again until you want to sell. Those are the two times cleaning was suggested. So for peace of mind maybe it is a good idea to do it even if you buy a used home and then maybe every 5-10 years.
Experts do agree that moisture should not be present in ducts and if moisture and dirt are present, the potential exists for biological contaminants to grow and be distributed throughout the home. Controlling moisture is the most effective way to prevent biological growth in all types of air ducts.
Furnace worked fine prior to duct cleaning. Within 2 hrs after duct cleaning guys left, noticed it getting chilly in house. Furnace had not been running since they left and would not come on. What’s the chance that duct cleaning in an older home could lead to having to have a blower control board replaced at an expense of $382.00?
**Do they clean the Air Handler Unit or Furnace? The most important part of your HVAC system is the Air Handler Unit. Will the company you call clean the air handler unit? (Blower, coils, insulation, drainpan)?
I to had an odd layer of white’ish dust building up especially during seasonal periods when the HVAC ran a a lot. I carefully swept up the fine dust into a small pile and had it analyzed. Turns out it was very fine fiberglass powder dust. It turns out it is the insulation form the attic! (My attic has blown in insulation). Turns out if you (I) had small gaps around my HVAC registers in the ceiling whee the airs blows into the room. What occurred in my case was that the exiting air at that seam creates a vacuum effect at the grate vent cover and draws and then blows fine insulation dust from the attic into the house. Removing each register grate and sealing each tin outlet gap with calking between the dry wall ceiling and tin fixed the issue. A couple were so bad with bowed gaps I had to screw down the bowed tin to the attaching stud better. Checking the very same glass top desk that catches and shows any dust accumulation now shows only very small amounts of normal house dust build up over several weeks. A big, big improvement. You might have a look by simply removing a couple vent covers yourself.
HVAC systems carry harmful particulates and promote asthma, hay fever, and allergy symptoms. A clean HVAC system promotes a healthier indoor environment, which contributes to productivity, comfort and a sense of health and well being.
Just had my air ducts cleaned. They used a high pressure air hose in all the heat ducts and cold air returns. He showed me the stuff that came out, the reason for the duct cleaning was the fact that I had a problem. With rodents. There was quite a few mummified rats and mice, and he said I wouldn’t have to have them done again unless I incur another problem or have renovations done. Cost me 345.00 for a 2 storey large old home. Not a bad price as I had them done when I moved in 28 years ago and it cost me 500.00. Lots of dog hair, toys, balls and assorted goodies came out as well. Took them 2 hours. I did have sanitizer put in the ducts because of the dead rodents.
Accumulation of animal matter and debris caused by animal destruction. When animals get into your air ducts, they can store food, defecate and even die inside. Vermin are also known for tearing holes in ducts, which can let in outside contaminants that filter down into your home.
A thorough cleaning can yield long-term energy savings. Bob Baker and Ross Montgomery, who study air quality and energy efficiency for the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, say their research shows dirty coils and blowers in commercial buildings can cut efficiency by as much as 40 percent.
While vacuuming and dusting may be a part of your weekly cleaning routine, these basic methods invariably leave dust and dirt behind, and no amount of regular cleaning can capture every dust mite your home produces. As such, much of that dust and dirt ends up in your air ducts. What’s worse is that this same dust continues to recirculate over and over again, with the dust continuing to accumulate inside your ducts even while it’s redistributed throughout your home.

“air duct cleaning how does it work |why do i need air duct cleaning”

I’ve talked to many homeowners who have been victimized by these scams. Even the ones who don’t succumb to the high-pressure techniques are still frequently wronged, as these lowball companies often use inadequate tools and equipment — such as handheld vacuums and drills — to do the work. They quickly go through the house, vacuuming out a few vents, and are gone in less than 30 minutes. A legitimate air duct cleaning should take three to four hours to complete, according to reputable duct cleaning companies that I’ve spoken to.

What about ringworm? If the fungus is as contagious as doctors warn, and the spores can live several months, doesn’t it make sense to spray some sort of fungus killer into the HVAC system to kill the spores that it has sucked in from the air? Duct cleaning would not be helpful at all here; these spores are microscopic and it could actually spread them further. But given how severely contagious ringworm is, body and especially scalp, does anyone make an aerosol product that will clean the system and kill the fungus? One the resident can use, not call an HVAC company; you can’t do that when you are in an apartment. I hear it’s not the same as mold, it is much more difficult. Truth?
On the exterior condenser/compressor, remove the fan cage. Using a screwdriver or wrench, remove the fasteners and lift the cage or fan grill away from the top of the unit. By hand, or with a wet/dry vacuum, clean leaves and other debris from the interior.
I noticed a lot of negative feedback, though unfortunately there are many dishonest companies out there. I currently work with a company that cleans duct work and we DO NOT use any scare tactics or up sell services or equipment. Once every 10years of course there are exceptions. We clean supply, returns, air handler, housing, motor, and fan. Though be discerning when qualifying anyone to work in your home. I would ask for REAL REFERENCES to contact.
I have severe allergies and a son with asthma, we both were suffering with breathing issues after we moved into an older home in CNY. I called around and got a couple estimates for Air Duct Cleaning and went with Home Enhancement Solutions. Very courteous and professional, they cleaned every nook and corner of the duct work, all the vents and covers, the furnace and blower. They even showed me some of the stuff they pulled out, gross… but we are both breathing better. I will be having this done every year even though they said it may not be necessary to clean, but they will come back in a year and check for free. Highly recommend these guys to anyone that needs this done.
My floor register in my room doesn’t allow much air flow. I’ve tried reaching down as far as I could with my long arms but can only get so much. My understanding is all ducks/floor registers are connected for even air flow in our basement. Everyone else’s gets a lot of cold air blowing in theres. How can I get my registers air flow to work better
Each day the air in your home is re-circulated through your home’s air duct system. Over time dust, dander, and debris builds up in your HVAC/Air Duct System making your furnace and air conditioner less efficient which can cost you more money to operate.
I live in a 1950’s ranch house in the South. The prior owners were smokers. Based on recommendations from one of the local conservation organizations, I decided to have a home energy audit done. As part of their findings, they recommended additional insulation in the attic and duct cleaning and sealing. This turned out to be a very problematic process. In terms of the ducts, it was necessary to remove the metal grates. However, these grates had been painted over many times and shoe molding covered the bottom of the grates. The vendor not able to remove the grates without damaging them in the process. Because these grates dated back to the 1950’s, it was difficult to find appropriate replacements. The ones I finally discovered were correct except they were 1/4″ wider. This meant that the shoe molding had to be carved out. The duct cleaner could not provide any assistance with this problem. It took me a month of long evenings replacing the vent covers myself, carefully chiseling out the shoe molding and repainting. In terms of the extra installation in the attic, the same vendor used blow in insulation. Unfortunately, they did not recognize that the 13 floodlights whose mounting extended into the attic were not designed to be buried under insulation. The problem manifested itself in terms of expensive flood light bulbs failing continually. So, I had to have all of the light housings replaced. Yet another unexpected expense. Despite the expense, pain and suffering, I cannot report any improvement in my heating costs or the “quality” of the air. To be fair, I do not have any allergies and did not undertake this for air quality improvements but rather heating efficiency improvements.
Often dryer ducts get overlooked when it comes to keeping vents in your home or commercial property clean. A dryer duct is the leading duct that catches fire. Dryer vents account for nearly 15,000 house fires every year. Self cleaning can only get what’s shown on the surface, not what’s buried in the dryer vent. For professional dryer vent cleaning services, contact DuctMedic today. Don’t fall under another statistic, get your dryer duct cleaned.
I’m having my duct work cleaned this Saturday. Have a coupon for $49 through Amazon. Job normally $249. Had my basement remodeled about 18 months ago. The contractors were very thorough at blocking the vents, as far as I can tell. The offer is for HVAC and dryer vent cleaning. My house is 11 years old. I figured, $49 is not much. I appreciate your tips on not getting talked into any additional service, not to use solvents to clean, the certification information and before and after pictures. Very useful and I’ll be sure that all I spend is the $49 for the voucher.
If there is stuff in the ducts, the fact that it’s laying there and not being blown into the rooms is proof positive that it is hurting no-one. The 5-6 exceptions you cite in this article I’ll buy, but only with the caveat that at least some of those could have been avoided by proper protection (during remodeling for example) – and if asbestos/lead/whatever winds up in your ducts- the remodeling contractor should be the one paying to remove it.
If you price air duct cleaning from several companies, you will notice a big price difference from one company to the next. For a typical 2,000-SF home, the price might range from $60 to $600. After learning more, you will find that PRICE has a direct correlation to the DEGREE of cleaning you get.
http://davewirth.blogspot.com/2014/01… There are several video’s on youtube of companies that clean air heating vents, but there are none that show how you can clean them yourself. This is a video i made when i decided to try and clean my air ducts by myself. I used a shop vac and a leaf blower to do the entire job.

I have filed a claim with the BBB because this company is a scam. They charged me $1,590 and their initial coupon stated whole house for $89.00. I live in a small townhouse. They claimed I had mold, but another company came out the next day, and felt that there was no mold. I never had musty smell in my house nor alot of dust; ever any type of water damage; I should have researched this more before answering in ad in the Penny Saver. Big mistake on my part, and now I’m trying to get reimbursed for at least half of what I spent.
It’s 11 years plus in the industry I have only had to sanitize two systems both were slab systems that were in concrete and could be cleaned with a different method than normal duct cleaning. We were able to use water to rinse out the disinfectant. Would you use a chemical on anything else you use to eat or drink with and not rinse it off? The ducts in your home should be thought of as your homes heart and lungs and breathe the same air that you do. And just like us we wouldn’t use bad chemicals in our lungs and heart.
in response to this reply ” should your ducts be cleaned”, i have to politely correct the person who answered this. you are not using common sense. first, most of the country uses metal duct work, so for you to say what you did, is wrong. second, the duct system in a house is a circulatory system. that means it draws air into the furnace, it gets filtered, and then it is blown out into the house to heat or cool. So, obviously that air is being brought into the house from somewhere right? Yes, its coming from the outside where there are many allergens and dust particles . For you to says that about whether a duct system is sealed or not, makes no difference. The air is coming from somewhere right? It has to originate from somewhere right? Just look on top of your cieling fan. If there is a bunch of dust up there, then there is obviously a bunch in your ducts. And the duct air is being circulated every day, and every hour through your house. Its simple, dust collects everywhere in your house. Imagine if you never dusted your shelves, or tv? There would be a ton of dust after a while. Well, now think about the air in the duct system. Of course theres gonna be a ton of dust in there. For you to say that it is not benififcial to clean the ducts, is plain ignorant. 90% of the air we breathe is in our household. Wouldnt you want that air to be as dust and allergen free? I could go on for hours about the benifits of duct cleaning, but i just wanted to make a quick point that the person whose says it is not benificial to clean them, is not using common sense. Not to mention, giving the people who clean ducts for a living, a bad name. Use your head .

As one of the duct cleaners that do it right it disgusts me to hear the horror stories some of my past customers have had with the companies using scare tactics, bait and switch schemes, and just plain intimidation to make a fast buck. The Ductz franchise as a whole has gone behind other “duct cleaners” in the last year to the tune of almost three-quarters of a million dollars. All of this expense could have been avoided had the customers been able to do some background research before hiring. NADCA is a great organization and should be a minimum requirement for finding a duct cleaner. Other great questions include “How long does the service take?” (2 techs, 4-5 hours for a small house, 7-9+ hours for a two system house), “Do you clean the entire system including all trunk lines and the air handler (blower motor and evaporator coil)?”, “How do you validate the job you have done?” (before and after picture reports work great). Beware of duct cleaners that say their process will solve all your air quality concerns. Duct cleaning is one of several steps to take to rid your home of unwanted dust, dirt, mold, and other allergens.
5.         All registers are blocked using a special material called “duct mask.” One register at a time is left unblocked. This concentrates the suction applied at the main trunk line to one vent or “branch duct” at a time.
It’s a simple matter to notice when your carpet needs cleaned, but dirt and grime in a duct system is hidden from view. Even with regular filter replacement, ducts still require professional cleaning. This requires specially-designed equipment, which is why many HVAC contractors use our services.
I have to to admit that I was little skeptical of the air duct cleaning ads you see in coupon mailers, but Mr. Duct really changed the way I perceived the industry. Their representatives were knowledgable and, more importantly, honest. I really appreacited their attention to detail and I was happy with the quality of the work.
After all of the duct work on the supply side is completed, we move to the cold-air return system. The main return grill is removed (unless attached to wall or painted surfaces) and the venting is cleaned followed by the vent covers and lines throughout the home.

Remove the outer covers and use the brush attachment on a powerful shop vacuum to remove all outside dirt. Then, using a gentle stream from a garden hose, spray through the fins from the inside out to remove any built up dirt or debris from between them. Never use a pressure washer, since the pressure can damage the fins. If the fins are particularly dirty, use a commercially available fin cleaning spray (available at home improvement centers; read and follow manufacturer directions).

The amount of time it takes to clean a residential HVAC system depends on many variables such as the size of the home, the number of systems, the extent of the contamination and the number of HVAC cleaners performing the job. Ask at least two contractors to inspect your system and give you a time estimate for your particular system. This will give you a general idea of how long the job should take as well as an idea of how thoroughly the contractor plans to do the job.
Air duct cleaning service providers may tell you that they need to apply a chemical biocide to the inside of your ducts to kill bacteria (germs) and fungi (mold), and prevent future biological growth. Some duct cleaning service providers may propose to introduce ozone to kill biological contaminants. Ozone is a highly reactive gas that is regulated in the outside air as a lung irritant. However, there remains considerable controversy over the necessity and wisdom of introducing chemical biocides or ozone into the duct work.
Some air cleaning devices are designed to be installed in the ductwork of a home’s central heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) system to clean the air in the whole house. Portable room air cleaners can be used to clean the air in a single room or specific areas, but they are not intended for whole-house filtration. The following pages will provide information on different types of air cleaning devices and how they work.
You’ll breathe easier and enjoy a cleaner indoor environment after having your ventilation system professionally cleaned by Dalworth Clean. Regular replacement of your systems air filters will help to maintain an optimum level of indoor air quality.
Most people are now aware that indoor air pollution is an issue of growing concern and increased visibility. Many companies are marketing products and services intended to improve the quality of your indoor air. You have probably seen an advertisement, received a coupon in the mail, or been approached directly by a company offering to clean your air ducts as a means of improving your home’s indoor air quality. These services typically — but not always — range in cost from $450 to $1,000 per heating and cooling system, depending on:
I have had this done and am skeptical of the benefits. I watched the guy do it and it seemed he did a very thorough job, but my feeling are if your filter stays very clean for long after it is normally due for a change you do not need duct cleaning.

Don’t Get Fooled: Keep in mind that intake ducts (room ducts that return air to the heating/cooling unit) are likely to be dirtier than supply ducts (which deliver conditioned air from the HVAC unit), since they often don’t have filters. Make sure any “before-and-after” photos are of the supply ducts, where it’s most important that the air is clean.
He proceeded to clean each heat register by removing the grille and blasting it with an air pressure hose toward the duct opening thinking that the dust would magically be sucked inside. In one room this caused a ceiling smoke detector to go off because the excess dust fooled it into thinking there was smoke. I put my hand in front of a register he wasn’t working on and could hardly feel a suction. Although we discussed how I open and close damper doors, I realized later that he never checked, opened or adjusted them during the cleaning. He could have closed all but the one he was working on in order to increase suction results. His next step was to blast air into the duct and then attach a “squid-like” device that slapped around inside the duct as far as he could reach. This is important! In a newer house, ducts have long straight runs from the furnace. In older houses like mine they can turn and twist. In fact, the duct we have a problem with runs straight up from the basement inside a wall and turns 90 degrees into a soffit for three feet then into two 90 degree turns to get into the floor joist area for another two feet and finally a 90 degree turn up to the second floor register. When he cleaned this one he could only get three feet into the register with the hose or squid because of the turns. That was the case with most. Hardly what could be described as a decent cleaning.

I called a company name “GREEN RHVAC” with their $29.00 one system air duck cleaning. When the guy came with a truck I asked him to tell me how much he will charge and he said that if he gave me price and I didn’t want the service then he would charge me $89 or he would tell me how much he charge me after he finished the work. I immoderately sense that I made mistake to call him to my house. To cut my lost I asked him to give me the price and it was $1600 for two systems house. I paid $100 to him for my lesson to learn and search online to find this site is very helpfully and I should do it before to call anyone for air duck cleaning.
4-7 Hour Process: When you have your duct cleaning performed by Four Seasons, a two man crew will come out to your home fully equipped to perform a thorough air duct cleaning. Where other less scrupulous companies may spend an hour or two cleaning your ducts, Four Seasons will spend at least 4-7 hours meticulously cleaning every section of your ducts.
Portable air cleaners generally contain a fan to circulate the air and use one or more of the air cleaning devices discussed above. Portable air cleaners may be moved from room to room and used when continuous and localized air cleaning is needed. They may be an option if a home is not equipped with a central HVAC system or forced air heating system.

I would like to add that a lot of the dust is from your home and mostly found in your return vents return ducting because as it pulls the air into the ducting from your house, along with the dust and moisture, some of it will gravitate towards the bottom of the ducting due to
Questions about the safety, effectiveness and overall desirability of sealants remain. For example, little is known about the potential toxicity of these products under typical use conditions or in the event they catch fire.
The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends air duct cleaning every three to five years. You might need air duct cleaning more often, however, if you have not changed your furnace filter regularly (we’re all busy, we understand) or if you had home renovations completed (construction dust). It’s especially important to hire a professional, respected air duct cleaning service company if you know or suspect you have:

A thorough visual inspection is the best way to verify the cleanliness of your heating and cooling system. Some service providers use remote photography to document conditions inside ducts. All portions of the system should be visibly clean; you should not be able to detect any debris with the naked eye. Show the Post-Cleaning Consumer Checklist to the service provider before the work begins. After completing the job, ask the service provider to show you each component of your system to verify that the job was performed satisfactorily.
A $99 special turned up hidden costs . $25 for service call, every duct after 10 was $20 per duct. Told them to get out of my house. The man became very vocal and yelled at me all the way back to his truck. I said “don’t you shout at me”. Called Sears and got nowhere not even an apology for the conduct of its technician. After reading all of these articles I’ll stick my vacuum hose as a DIY project.

We access the inside of the trunk lines (supply) and plenums (return air) and clean each one with specialized scrubbing air tools. Small 1″ holes allow access to every area as the dirt is pulled toward the attached vacuum hose. (all if reachable)
Three-Stage H.E.P.A. Filtration: Our 3-stage H.E.P.A. filtration and powerful vacuum systems work together to ensure that all of the contaminants are safely removed from the home, and every piece of our equipment meets OSHA, EPA, and NADCA standards. We use a combination of compressed air and rotary brush agitation to scrub every last inch of the ducts. In the end, you will have up to 99.97% of the dust, dirt, and debris removed from the ducts in your home.
A proper home air duct cleaning costs anywhere from $400-$1,000, depending on the size of the system to be cleaned, the type of services offered, the regional climate and the level of use the ventilation system gets, the type of materials inside the ductwork and the amount of contaminants (dust, mold, etc.). A 1,400-square-foot home with only one system of ducts will usually be at the lower end of the scale, while a 3,500-square-foot home with multiple heating/cooling systems is at the upper end of the price range.
2. Dirt and dust restrict air flow. Let’s say your system is doing a fine job of heating and cooling the air. But if the blower fan or motor can’t turn because of dirt or the air filter is clogged with dust, then the system can’t effectively circulate that properly warmed or cooled air through out your home. It’s still going to run longer and use more energy.

You’d be surprised as to how much of the dust collects at the blower and just inside the register itself. The rest of the system is likely quite clean and with our knocking, even cleaner now. One could feel free to take apart as much of their duct as they are comfortable with but for the time this could take, I’m not sure it would be worth it unless you are well versed in how to do it efficiently.
The team (yes, two people) took most of the day and thoroughly cleaned everything including the blower wheel, AC coils, condenser outside, registers, boots, trunklines, and plenums. The said they follow the national air duct cleaners assn which requires a huge HEPA-filtered collector while cleaning, rotating brushes in the duct work, air sweeping tools, etc… I thought they were very professional and very thorough! And all at a great price.
I have been told by an excellent company that duct cleaning is never recommended. They said it only damages the duct work and is not really necessary. It was not recommended at all ever. Your comments about this would be appreciated.
Had duct cleaned (apartment) however, dust is still settling throughout the apartment. Contractor said no other cleaning necessary until two (2) years. Is there a time period before dust no longer settles prior to that time? Should the vendor had worn a mask? He did not cover his face the vents and dust was blown throughout the apartment (had family help with the cleanup). I had to leave when they left because I have asthma and I couldn’t breathe without coughing. Please help!
I used Mr. Duct for the first time to clean a dryer vent that had not been working properly even after I had other companies/individuals take a look at it. Mr. Duct arrived on time, were very professional, organized, and knew exactly what to do. The vent now works perfectly. I will certainly use more of the Mr. Duct services.
There is no standard measurement for the effectiveness of electronic air cleaners. While they may remove small particles, they may be ineffective in removing large particles. Electronic air cleaners can produce ozone — a lung irritant. The amount of ozone produced varies among models. Electronic air cleaners may also produce ultrafine particles resulting from reaction of ozone with indoor chemicals such as those coming from household cleaning products, air fresheners, certain paints, wood flooring, or carpets. Ultrafine particles may be linked with adverse health effects in some sensitive populations.
Such signs indicate the need for an expert air duct cleaning, which Mr. Duct can provide. We thoroughly clean heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to eliminate dust, pet dander, and other allergens from both residential and commercial heating and cooling systems. For more information on why ductwork cleaning is important, explore some of our resources.
Ultimately, cleaning the ducts of your HVAC system is not a do-it-yourself project. And it’s certainly not a job for a cheap guy with an air compressor in a minivan, either. A thorough cleaning can only be performed by using industry-standard equipment designed to handle the size and volume of all kinds of homes. That’s why you can trust the trained professionals of Direct Energy.
The technician that replaced my blower module said I could definitely benefit from a professional cleaning of the handler and the ductwork, which makes sense. They are going to charge about 500 dollars and bring a crew of people out.
If your facility uses a clothes dryer, you may have a fire hazard without realizing it. Lint buildup increases risk of fire and reduces the efficiency of your dryer. This costs not only time spent working, but also increases the electric bill.
has been dedicated to helping consumers get the real scoop on local service companies and health providers since 1995. Inspired by the frustrations her co-founder had trying to find reliable contractors in suburban Columbus, Ohio, she started Angie’s List to help homeowners find who they should hire and who they should avoid.
I reiside the NE and lived in house for 43 years and avoided duct cleaning due to concerns about the amount of dust etc that would inevitably blow back into house after being disturbed. Is that valid?

“honest air duct cleaning _air duct cleaning experts”

John and his crew were very friendly and very informative regarding the hvac system and duct cleaning. We will surely call Sears again for this and other services based on this experience. We are very pleased. Thanks!
The Air Duct Cleaning gear as used by Cyclone Air Systems is high performance, for the special clean-up devices that are devised to literally get over mold, mud and debris, together with many sorts of poisons from duct-work systems of residential and industrial properties in All Bay Area CA.
#4 If you see an ad for a service that seems to good to be true, It 100% is. They use these ads to get in the door to sell you $100’s of services that truthfully you will not get even if you pay for them. It is a scam trust me I deal with these guys all year long here in Florida.

I hope this further explains the situation. HVAC is very technical, requires a wide variety of uncommon tools and I try to keep it easy to understand to the average homeowner. Beyond that, there could be licensing required by law in certain cases.
You’d be surprised how many HVAC companies don’t even have websites. How accountable can we think they are, when a phone number can be changed at the drop of a hat? I’m not hiring one without a website. Never again.

10.       Once all main trunk ducts are cleaned and visibly inspected, we move on to clean your HVAC air handling unit. We clean the blower area, removing it if it is accessible, and air-wash all the fan blades. If you have air conditioning, we will inspect your evaporator coil, as long as it is accessible and serviceable.  We will determine if the coil needs to be cleaned and present this to you during the job.  Matted coils are a breeding ground for microbes. In addition, if they haven’t been cleaned in some time, you can experience up to 20% less efficiency, according to the America Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). The condensate pan is also air-washed and drained.
I have worked cleaning HVAC in my area for almost 5 years. I always do a thorough inspection and cleaning, providing before and after photos. I have completed some jobs where I felt that it was not entirely necessary, but ultimately what the customer wanted. With that being said, I have endless photos of unspeakable horrors. Hotels are usually nasty, post construction mess is certain, pets and kids create lots off debris, bugs congregate and die, then spiders set up and die, I have even had one supply that was nearly plugged with sand!
I had my a/c and furnace serviced and cleaned as well as my ducts cleaned and everything went smoothly and for a reasonable price. Evelyn was excellent at keeping me updated on the progress of the work since I wasn’t able to be there in person. Great customer service and speed of scheduling.
as you say it is not required to be done as niether are you required to put wax on a new car paint job as is already sealed. yet almost everyone when washing their cars chooses to add more wax or just wax the car.
The duct cleaning was great. I also ordered hookups of my washer and dryer with A1 in Beaverton, OR which was to include bringing new supply lines and a drain hose for the washer. After verifying twice this would be done with A1 on their direct office line, they called the day of the install to say they didn’t do hoses and didn’t have them. So, I don’t have a working laundry in my house until I get the hoses myself. Why did they say they could do it? What a let down.

Air filters in general do a good job of clearing the air. But do they actually make you feel better? The medical verdict is still out. According to Andrew Filderman, M.D., a pulmonary specialist in Rockport, Maine, no controlled studies have been done on the subject. “We know these things filter the stuff, but we don’t know if it helps,” he says. “It’s difficult to prove because there are so many provocative things in the air, and you don’t always know what’s causing the problem.” Dr. Filderman adds that while some allergic or asthmatic patients report benefits from air filters, the evidence remains anecdotal. “If source control and ventilation don’t help,” he says, “it’s not unreasonable to try a filter.”
Maybe I took him to literally but I am pretty sure cops wont show up to ensure that my duct gets replaced. He said it would be over 1000 dollars to replace the ductwork if that is the case. Now, I spoke to a friend who did 2 ductwork lines on his own in his attic and he said it was like 15 dollars for the plastic wirewound tubing to create new ducts. Should I cancel that appointment and just do the work on my own? I feel like I’m a chump or lazy for considering paying someone to do this work.
The A/C System Cleaning and restoration industry has become a very lucrative bait and switch industry that many Carpet cleaning companies, Maid services, as well as plumbing or handyman service companies are adding on to there services. These add-ons are not fully certified, trained or even have any experience in the HVAC industry. These companies are the reason prices and quality of work are all over the place. If you are looking to make a smart decision for your home a professional Duct Cleaning service will protect you for 5-7 years. This info comes from NADCA (National Air Duct Cleaning Association) which is the closest thing to a license we have for duct cleaning. They have a great site that explains this process and pricing much more in depth and factual than what has been written here. This organization is working very hard to get these bad companies exposed and out of this industry. So in saying that do your research! Green Duct Decontamination is a certified company with certified technicians that take this work very seriously. We can not have these low rated unprofessional companies paste a bad name for an entire industry. Stay away from anything under 250$ for a full duct clean this is not feasible, go look at NADCA.com and you will understand why and what these companies are doing to rob you of your dollar.
We agree with our customers who tell us the allergies do not appear as bad after the ducts have been cleaned. Like all governmental agencies are always look to protect the people, they sometimes bend over the wrong way, and don’t deal with reality of success.

Both Dalton and James were professional and extraordinarily respectful. Dalton took the time to explain a few tips around caring for my HVAC system, which was very much appreciated. I need a little time to determine whether the cleaning meets my expectations, as I “live” with it, I will understand those results. I can’t speak highly enough of Dalton and James. Thank you.
If your house has no central air-conditioning or heating, portable room air filters are the most practical choice. (Freestanding whole-house units exist, but they typically require attic installation and ducting to individual rooms.) Most portables employ highly effective HEPA filters, which are not generally used in whole-house systems because they need more-powerful fans than furnaces can provide . Some portable units, called ion air cleaners, use electrostatic precipitator technology. Ion units, which don’t require fans, are typically quieter than HEPA models and cost less to operate because there are no filters to replace. But these units may produce trace amounts of the lung irritant ozone as a by-product of the ionization process
We had Mr. Duct out to perform an air duct cleaning for our residential home and they were great. The price was the same as the one given over the phone and we were very pleased with the results, which they proved through a video camera sweep at the end of the service.

I just had my Air ducts “cleaned”. The person who came to my house works for an air duct cleaning company who uses a professional vacuum. He said the company would charge me about $900 but he can do it aside on his own and charge me half of that. However, when he came over the house, he brought the rotary brush along with his domestic vacuum cleaner that it’s hose was about 5 feet long, I ask him that the wasnt strong enough to pull dust out, and he said, it’s similar to what companies use. I was in doubt and he didnt cover the vents so im thinking all dust must have come out from every air vents. Could this vacuum have taking the debris out of the air ducts? Or how can I myself find out if the inside of the air ducts have been cleaned and no debris sitting there? I have dust all over my house.
I purchased a Groupon for cleaning of unlimited air ducts and one return vent for $39. I should have checked into their hours first because they only offer services during normal business hours. So, with no evenings or weekends available you have to take time off work. I asked Groupon for a refund when I realized this and they refused because it wasn’t within the three day window. Then they didn’t even show up or call for the appointment. I called them after they were an hour late and they were going to call the local dispatch office and have them call me back within 15 minutes. I did not receive that call. I called again and was told I would get a call back from a manager. That didn’t happen either. So I asked Groupon for a refund again and they gave me Groupon bucks. When the survey came asking if I was satisfied with the Groupon customer service I said no, I want real money. I got my real refund the next day. Seems to me Groupon should stop dealing with these companies.

What about cleaning your AC ducts to eliminate odors?  Just like with smoking, it is the dust in your ducts that holds the odors so prevention is the key.  However, there are some problems with your air conditioner that can create odors.  Ensure that you keep your evaporator coil and drain pan clean to prevent odor problems, then read: Dirty Sock Syndrome – What is it, is it dangerous, and how to I fix it?
Under Federal pesticide law, manufacturers of ozone generators must list an EPA establishment number on the packaging. This number merely identifies the facility that manufactured the product. Display of this number implies neither EPA endorsement nor that EPA has found the product to be safe or effective.
Portable air cleaners can be evaluated by their effectiveness in reducing airborne pollutants. This effectiveness is measured by the clean air delivery rate, or CADR, developed by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, or AHAM. The CADR is a measure of a portable air cleaner’s delivery of contaminant-free air, expressed in cubic feet per minute. For example, if an air cleaner has a CADR of 250 for dust particles, it may reduce dust particle levels to the same concentration as would be achieved by adding 250 cubic feet of clean air each minute. While a portable air cleaner may not achieve its rated CADR under all circumstances, the CADR value does allow comparison across different portable air cleaners.
The original furnace was a coal fired “octopus” design which had no blower to circulate the air but relied upon warm air rising to distribute the heat. That also means that the system breathed air in from the basement and most of this type did not have a cold air return system. At some point (probably in the 1940’s) the system was upgraded to a forced air gas furnace. The upgrade included replacing the 12″ diameter air ducts exposed in the basement with 6″ ducts and a cold air return system of ducts from the two (only two) air returns on the first floor.

If the service provider charges by the hour, request an estimate of the number of hours or days the job will take, and find out whether there will be interruptions in the work. Make sure the duct cleaner you choose will provide a written agreement outlining the total cost and scope of the job before work begins.
I have had the ducts cleaned at my last two homes when I had the furnace and air condtioning systems replaced. I figured the furnace will be new and clean, so have the ducts cleaned too. I do have good filtration systems on the new units as well which I do change filters regularly.

“reliable air duct cleaning is air duct cleaning worth it”

Dalworth offers an optional video inspection service for duct systems. Using a specialized video camera system, we can inspect and record the interior condition of a duct system. It’s a great to know, with absolute certainty, what the true condition of the inside of your duct system is.
Please record the sales pitch you receive and post it up here. I’ve heard such stories about the coupon deals (either not showing up or hard selling upgrades), it would be great to hear how it goes for you.
My intention was to use the $59.99 coupon for unlimited vents and 1 return. I have allergies so I wanted to make sure I cleaned out everything that is needed. The technician say that the coupon doesn’t include the furnace and the main trunks which turned out to be an extra $270 (and that I needed to have this done). On top of that I was charged $130 for a blower housing cleaning in that they used the shopvac to blow air in the ducts push debris and dust. On top of that i was charged $200 for Sanitizer and Mildicide, of which I saw the technician use a white spray bottle to spray the vents and return. He also used a drill attached with a cord. At the end of the cord it was a brush to I guess loosen the dirt in the ducts. After a vac was used to suck the dirt. He asked for my phone so he can take before and after pictures of only the return vent. His partner cleaned the furnace of which didn’t let me see how it looked after. I was charged an additional $40 for the Lifetime Electrostatic Filter (he said it was originally $120, whatever). Lastly he wanted to install a UV light to take out the mold for $600, but I declined. When they left there was dust on my TV stand the upstairs hallway (under the return vent), and mostly in the furnace. I had to replace my filter immediately since they use the shop vac to blow in the air duct technique. I plan on requesting a refund.
Your cleaning service should involve all aspects of your duct work to maximize energy efficiency and air quality. This includes attending to the heat exchanger, blower, drain pan, plenum and coils as well. In the process, your service provider may find that you’re facing larger issues than debris and build-up. The professional may recommend having your furnace repaired if they notice, for example, damage to your heat exchanger or blower motor. Generally, a furnace repair costs between $130 and $500. They may also find that an A/C coil needs to be replaced rather than cleaned and would then recommend A/C repair.
The workers showed me the vacuum prior to and after the completed work. Once the cleaning process was complete, the vacuum had a huge pile of dust inside. The cleaning gave me peace of mind just knowing the air I was breathing was rid of the dust the home had been accumulating over the years. I highly recommend duct cleaning as well as this company.
At Mr. Duct, we understand that the decision to service the HVAC system may be a new and confusing process for many home and business owners. It may even seem that every air duct cleaning company has their own special money-making gimmick, further complicating the research and comparison process for you.
Duct & Vent Cleaning of America, Inc. was founded in April of 1989 by Ron Eckman, and was soon joined full time by his cousin Michael Vinick in West Springfield, MA. The company began as a result of Ron recognizing the importance of duct cleaning and that it was an important emerging market. Very soon, Ron turned over control of the company to Michael who has been running the company ever since.
The EPA is so far behind on useful knowledge because of the lack of funding so don’t be mislead. The Hvac old timers were left at the dock so to speak and missed out on the IAQ movement. The ones that are savvy and up to date on the information do Air Duct Cleaning, even tho that will lead to a few less service calls its the right thing to do for their customer. Please take a look into a return duct that has never been cleaned, I dare anyone to say it does not need to be cleaned.
Downtown- Pedestrian-friendly with a variety of hot spots, boutiques, galleries, and museums, downtown Dallas has a lot to offer its residents. Housing options range from affordable high-rise apartments to luxury lofts, providing options for most of the young professionals and hipsters who opt for urban living. With Main Street Garden and Klyde Warren Park nearby, downtown residents also have access to plenty of green space to go out and play.
It’s a simple matter to notice when your carpet needs cleaned, but dirt and grime in a duct system is hidden from view. Even with regular filter replacement, ducts still require professional cleaning. This requires specially-designed equipment, which is why many HVAC contractors use our services.
Metal is way better than flex duct or ductboard. It gets better airflow, holds up to critters and duct cleaners. I know of no hvac company here that cleans ductwork. (there probably is one somewhere) The mfg’s of duct cleaning equipment keep trying to sell us hvac people on their benefits and profit potential but most all hvac people know that unless you have metal ductwork you are NOT doing the customer any favors.
While air cleaning devices may help to control the levels of airborne allergens, particles, or, in some cases, gaseous pollutants in a home, they may not decrease adverse health effects from indoor air pollutants.
Demonstrate visible evidence of microbial growth in your duct work. Some service providers may attempt to convince you that your air ducts are contaminated by demonstrating that the microorganisms found in your home grow on a settling plate (i.e., petri dish). This is inappropriate. Some microorganisms are always present in the air, and some growth on a settling plate is normal. As noted earlier, only an expert can positively identify a substance as biological growth and lab analysis may be required for final confirmation. Other testing methods are not reliable.

As a family-owned and operated business for three generations, we’re all about taking good care of families. Armstrong has been providing customers with the highest level of quality products and services since 1965. Let our highly trained technicians care for the hearth, air duct, and vent cleaning needs of your home, so you can rest easy.
The cost of cleaning your air ducts is determined by the size of your air duct system and the extent of contamination. On average, homeowners spend between $265 and $471, with $352 being the national average.
Ask potential air duct cleaning companies to provide you with a written checklist of exactly what they will do, and if you hire them, ask them to verify each task as they complete it. Qualified air duct cleaners will follow strict standards set by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association and should be happy to show you their credentials.
What if you move into a 20 year old house and find that the people who owned it previously NEVER replaced the filter? It was so dirty that the HVAC system did not work at all. For most people – duct cleaning is NOT a waste of time or money. You must not have allergies. I have very bad ones plus asthma. It makes it very hard for me if I don’t get it done every few years. By the way – the ducts get dusty just sitting there – especially without air going through them. Dust settles on them just like it does the furniture.
A: The frequency of air duct cleaning in Atlanta GA depends on several factors, smokers or pets in the home, water contamination, residents with allergies or asthma, after renovations or prior to moving into a new home all are factors in determining when and how often a Heating and Air Conditioning system should be cleaned. Our general rule of thumb is an air duct system could be cleaned as often as every two years but no more than five years should elapse between cleanings.

Pay particular attention to cooling coils, which are designed to remove water from the air and can be a major source of moisture contamination of the system that can lead to mold growth. Make sure the condensate pan drains properly. The presence of substantial standing water and/or debris indicates a problem requiring immediate attention. Check any insulation near cooling coils for wet spots.

I replaced all the ducts but the trunks in my 1969 home when I replaced the horizontal furnace under the house with a gas pack. I got advice from a friend who was an HVAC contractor. I was surprised to find the trunks and other ducts very clean. I replaced the individual runs with flex primarily for the insulation. I wrapped the trunks with insulation also.
In my opinion, you should never get to the point where a duct cleaning is necessary, and it is completely preventable.  Instead, you should rely on preventative maintenance to ensure the health and welfare of you and your family.  In other words, treat the causes, not the symptoms!  Here are some tips to keep your air conditioning system running cleanly and efficiently:
As many as 1 in 5 Americans suffer from allergies caused by particles that are frequently found in the air inside most homes. If you or anyone in your family suffers from allergies or asthma—or if you just want healthier air in your home—ZEROREZ® can help.
Make sure the service provider follows the National Air Duct Cleaning Association’s (NADCA) standards and, if the ducts are constructed of flex duct, duct board, or lined with fiber glass, it follows the guidelines of the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA)
I was told that 15 out vents would be cleaned and one main vent. the guy came over and gave me an estimate of $500. I had acquired a groupon for $49. the guy said just doing the out vents and one main vent would accomplish nothing. Now I am in dispute with the groupon people for a refund which they won’t give and have to go ahead and waste the money and let them do it. Is their doing the 15 outvents and one main one going to accomplish anything?
I am NADCA Certified Air Systems Cleaning Specialist. Over the year I have learned on simple answer to this questions: there air duct cleaners and there are pretenders. There will be no benefit at all if you use on the very cheap pretender because they will not really clean anything. On the other hand if you call a qualified air duct cleaner with a NADCA Certification you will, like 99% of my customers, report improvement with your respiratory problems, you will see less dust and the job will pay for itself with energy savings and repair prevention.
I’m a heating and air conditioning contractor. I’ve been in the trade for over 15 years. I’ve witnessed numerous duct cleaning projects and talked with many duct cleaners. Duct cleaning as it’s usually promoted is a fraud. Most duct cleaners claim to deliver cleaner air. They deliver exactly the opposite. The studies on duct cleaning prove it, including a May 1998 study sponsored by NADCA and the EPA! The stories are compelling, but they can come with stories that “prove” anything they want. Internet searches are dominated by results from those who are paid to tell you that duct cleaning is worthwhile. Search a little more and you’ll find the truth.
Before we start to clean your air ducts, we will run a special camera through your ventilation system so that you can see the condition of your system before our cleaning. Once finished, you can see the difference with your own eyes as we run our camera through once more so you can see the before & after results.
If you answer “No” to any of the questions on the checklist, this may indicate a problem with the job. Ask your service provider to correct any deficiencies until you can answer “yes” to all the questions on the checklist.
All these pro duct cleaners answer with “it’s common sense, everything operates better when cleaner” etc. But your explanation is correct. Especially so with flex tube ducting where dust gets “stuck” between the lowest valleys (between wire coil supports) where air flow is drastically reduced — which is more than 50 pct of the entire interior surface area of the flex ducting. That sounds like a bad thing but also has a good effect of trapping dust from escaping.

“air duct cleaning and repair _air duct cleaning how does it work”

I was very happy with their service. When they came, they were professional and did a great job. It ended up being a challenge for them to get behind my dryer but they were able to do it and they even cleaned up all the dust that was behind it. Will definitely call them again to clean and would highly recommend them.
Pulling large volumes of air toward the truck, we now feed our soft rubber, high pressure air scrubbing tools down each of the vent lines forcing all of the contaminants into the trunk line where its extracted into the truck.  This removes dirt, dust, pollen, chemical residue and pet dander that has collected over the years.
I was amazed at the amount of debris, dust, pet hair etc. that came out of both systems, so in my opinion very much worth it. I wouldn’t say do it again on a annual basis at all…but maybe in 5 years or so.
Due to the dangers of working around electricity and the air-conditioner’s moving parts, it’s essential to completely turn off power to the unit. On the exterior condenser/compressor, look for an exterior shut-off box near the unit. Indoors, also turn the power off at the breaker box.
Excessive Dust: Excess dust and debris built up in the ductwork could cause your home to become dustier. Ask your contractor to use a camera to check inside the ductwork for this problem and show you the evidence before they begin to clean.
I would happily recommend Mr. Duct. The technicians were prompt, respectful of our home and were very careful not to drag or pull their heavy equipment on our wood and marble floors. They took all our dust with them. I had an excellent nights’s sleep knowing I wasn’t breathing furnace dust. I will hire them again next year.
At $39 will admit (after asking them several times) that they typically use an electric-powered shop vacuum to clean your ducts. You might wonder how a shop vacuum can remove possibly several pounds of grime?
Illness: If someone in your family is suffering from an unexplained allergy-related illness, and you’ve taken every other possible step to decontaminate your home, you may want to consider having your ducts cleaned to see if the HVAC system was the culprit.
Cleaning your ducts will also keep your home cleaner! As dust and debris, makes its way through your system, it ends up blowing back at you through your supply air vents. A clean home is a happy home, and less time dusting leaves more time for leisure.
I have been in the IAQ field for 30 years and have seen it all. I’ve used truck mounted equipment, portable equipment ( the general ) and portable hepa vac equipment with 3500 cfm to 5000 cfm, can suck up a 16 lbs bowling ball. With all this suction power you would think that a little dust in duct would be no problem. The National air duct association states that without agitation ( rotary brushes) the dust will still be adhered to the inside surface of the duct. So I guess what I’m saying is that Nadca certification is key along with the proper procedures.Consumers can go to the NADCA Website for more great information.

“should i have air duct cleaning indoor air duct cleaning”

Violet Shrop – Thank you and no. You don’t want the power off while cleaning registers…you want the fan running. Now once you get to the furnace itself, at the end and you’re ready to change the filter and wrap up…yes. Turn off the power.
Often imitated but never duplicated, Armstrong uses a strict 14 step process to assure your air ducts are cleaned properly and thoroughly.  No gimmicks, scams or bait and switches here.  A full breakdown of our 14 step process is explained below.
Some residential HVAC systems may not have enough fan or motor capacity to accommodate higher efficiency filters. Therefore, the HVAC manufacturer’s information should be checked prior to upgrading filters to determine whether it is feasible to use more efficient filters. Specially built high performance homes may occasionally be equipped with true HEPA filters installed in a properly designed HVAC system.
The key to the continued and efficient operation of your heating and cooling system is periodic maintenance. Servicing your heating and cooling equipment will keep your system operating at its peak energy efficiency and safe operation. As much as half of the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling. Maintaining the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system can have a big affect on your utility bills and your comfort. Learn about the process, methods and benefits of cleaning and maintaining your HVAC system.
Another major reason to routinely clean your air ducts is to maintain your indoor air quality (IAQ). Now, here at Bee’s Air Duct Cleaning we pride ourselves on our honesty. There are no conclusive studies showing that cleaning your air ducts is good for your health, or will help or cure your allergies. Over and over again we see these claims, though out the air duct cleaning industry. That being said, if you are allergic to something in your air ducts, cleaning your air ducts will certainly help. A good way to tell if an air duct cleaning could help your allergies is if you notice symptoms when you furnace or a/c kicks on. If you do, give us a call! If there doesn’t seem to be correlation, an air duct cleaning certainly won’t hurt and as we discussed earlier will be a benefit to your system as a whole.
Sears two-step, hot water extraction process, and our specially formulated cleaning solutions and fiber rinse are unlike most other carpet & upholstery cleaners. With the steam cleaning process, warm/hot water is used to loosen dirt embedded deep in the carpet fibers then it is quickly extracted with powerful vacuum equipment. Our second step, the Fiber Rinse, insures that we have removed the most dirt and cleaning solution (residue) from your carpet so it will be soft, fresh and stay cleaner longer.
There is substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface (e.g., sheet metal) ducts or on other components of your heating and cooling system. There are several important points to understand concerning mold detection in heating and cooling systems:
Some portable air cleaners using electronic air cleaners might produce ozone, which is a lung irritant. AHAM has a portable air cleaner certification program, and provides a complete listing of all certified cleaners with their CADR values on its Website. Exit
HVAC duct cleaning is as much a scam as fuel injector cleaning in automobiles. There is no discernible improvement in quality from either except it makes money for the people who sell you the service. Just use quality filters and change often, and use quality gas (Shell, Chevron) and you will do just fine.
Dear D.C.: My advice is simple: avoid those lowball offers. Companies offering a super low price on air duct cleaning might do more harm and no good. The fact of the matter is this: the average air duct cleaning for most homes costs between $300 and $500, with the price affected by factors like the size of the home, the number of ducts and their configuration. The average price for air duct cleaning is $35 per vent. So if your home has a total of 10 vents, the total would be $350.
Since the early years, we have encountered consumers who needed to be educated on the importance of air duct cleaning and indoor air quality. Now, we encounter consumers who understand the significance of air quality and are happy to learn more during our process. We also now understand how to enhance the overall effectiveness of the duct cleaning service that we provide with added indoor air quality related services specifically related to HVAC Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration.
EON Gas is a unique deodorizing/sanitizing gas that is used to treat the entire interior space of the home. It’s effective and neutralizing all kinds of organic odors. It’s also effective against a wide range of germs, viruses and allergens, including tree pollen.
I purchased one of those Amazon air duct cleaning coupons for 49.99. When the company showed up, they removed the vent to the air intake and immediately told me I needed $1800.00 for all new duct work. They said they could not clean the system until new duct work was installed. I thanked them and said I would give them a call. The only call I made was to Amazon to get a refund. I know I didn’t need new duct work. Be careful to not fall for unscrupulous salesmen and their pitches and scare tactics.
My vent covers have lots of mildew. They look bad! I live in a very humid climate in a condo. The handyman here has offered to take those down, wash them, sand, & then spray paint them with a mildew resistant paint. He said that he will leave them off overnight to dry. I am wondering if this is safe to breath the AC blowing out into the open all night??. ! Guess it is better than the mildew!?
Make sure the service provider follows the National Air Duct Cleaning Association’s (NADCA) standards and, if the ducts are constructed of flex duct, duct board, or lined with fiber glass, it follows the guidelines of the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA)
Did not realize cost had gone up so much for this service. Two years ago I had furnace and ducts cleaned at my old house and it was under $400. Now the cost is $700 for this house. I will keep looking for someone to offer a lower price, check them out, and have it done. Or will find the paperwork to see who did it before. I liked this article and did learn some things. Thanks.
Before you choose any duct cleaning service provider, interview as many service providers as you can. Ensure that the service provider is certified by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association or NADCA. Make sure that they hold a good standing in the Better Business Bureau and have all the necessary certifications and license. Be clear about their terms of service. Make sure they have the right equipment to do the job. It is best to go for a company that has been tried and tested successfully by any of your acquaintances or opt for a service provider that has been in the business for quite some time.
The Environmental Protection Agency claims that indoor air has been found to be up to 70 times more polluted than outdoor air. Now consider, that most people spend between 60% to 90% of their time indoors…the facts can be quite alarming.

You wouldn’t drink dirty water so why breathe dirty air? The air inside your home can actually be more polluted than the air outside. Sears has several affordable air cleaning systems available so you can breathe easier knowing your family is breathing clean air.
Mr. Duct can offer you a wide variety of thermostats to fit your heating and cooling needs. Our thermostats provide our clientele the ability to manage more than just the temperature of their home. The first line of defense against airborne contaminants is to keep a house clean and well ventilated. But for some sensitive people that may not be enough. That’s where air filters come in. Household air filters are available in two basic types: media filters, which create a physical barrier that traps minute particles, and electronic filters, which use a high-voltage charge to attract and capture contaminants. A few air filters are hybrids that combine both methods, and some include activated carbon elements to combat odor.
Here in Atlanta we get 6 to 10 $49 coupons in the mail weekly…I have always consider them a complete scam….just had my master bathroom& bedroom and guest bath completely remodeled down to the studs…Had my 3 returns nearest the area sealed to prevent sheet rock dust to spread…it worked and I personally cleaned all 7 returns when a 5 HP , new Rigid shop Vac($99 from HD)…took one hour and I found little evidence that “I need my ducts cleaned” Had quotes from $400 to $600…I use the best air filters for my air handler and change it every 2 to 3 months…..any dust is trapped in it and I believe the Air Duct folks are all cons….
Jill – Not all HVAC companies clean duct. There are actually businesses who specifically do just that. I’m not sure who you spoke to but that is something to consider. There are also certain duct systems that perhaps only a few companies would be equipped to handle.
Picture a stack of furnace filters about 8 inches thick and you get the idea of an extended media filter. These boxy units contain an accordionlike pile of filtration media, which makes them more effective than regular fiberglass filters. They require professional installation because the large filter holder must be plumbed into the ductwork. The price, including installation, ranges from $400 to $600; you’ll need to replace the $40-to-$60 filter every year.
I recently replaced my 44 year old furnace. Over the years we have had several construction projects inside the home. For many years breathing the heated air from the duct work caused excessive sneezing, sinus issues, and lung irritation. . The heat smelled like dust. To maximize air quality I added a humidifier, MERV-11 filter, and UV light onto the new furnace. To further improve air quality, I had the ducts cleaned and sanitized. I took before and after pictures of the inside of each return and output duct. They were filthy before, and sparkling clean and fresh after the procedure. Now when running the system, clean sanitized air flows through my whole house. A huge difference. It will make sleeping and being indoors during the winter months far more tolerable. I use window air conditioners, and run the system in the summer to keep the house air clean and fresh on hot summer days too. It works! Great decision!

1.         The vacuum and compressed air equipment are setup outside the home and are properly positioned to allow for the most direct connection to your HVAC system and its ductwork. Large portable HEPA vacuums also can be used and set up closer to the system where appropriate. If needed, drop cloths are laid out to protect the floor where the vacuum hose is brought in. Our technicians wear nitrile gloves to prevent leaving fingerprints and wear booties to protect your rugs and floors. They place plastic sheaths on your wall corners to protect them from the vacuum hose. Because nothing is sucked up from the vents and the process uses negative pressure, you do not need to leave your home or worry about dusting after the service.
if your issue is mold, again correct maintanance of your filter will solve 95% of your problems. Those sensitive to allergies would be wiser finding out what is causing there allergies and addressing that problem than wasting hundreds on an air duct cleaning job.
This is my 2nd time using Mr. Duct and they are my go-to for spring A/C cleaning as well as fall furnace servicing/cleaning. Always on time, friendly and knowledgeable technicians. Reliable and trusted service.

UVGI cleaners use ultraviolet radiation from UV lamps that may destroy biological pollutants such as viruses, bacteria, allergens and molds that are airborne or growing on HVAC surfaces (e.g., found on cooling coils, drain pans, or ductwork). If used, they should be applied with, but not as a replacement for, filtration systems.
Duct & Vent Cleaning of America, Inc. is proud to have a client list that includes government agencies, municipalities, state governments, Fortune 500 companies, small business, health care facilities, universities, colleges and homeowners.
The Environmental Protection Agency says that “duct cleaning services typically – but not always – range in cost from $450 to $1000 per heating and cooling system, depending on the services offered, the size of the system to be cleaned, system accessibility, climactic region, and level of contamination” and type of duct material. Consumers should beware of air duct cleaning companies that making sweeping claims about the health benefits of duct cleaning – such claims are unsubstantiated. Consumers should also beware of “blow-and-go” air duct cleaning companies. These companies often charge a nominal fee and do a poor job of cleaning the heating and cooling system. These companies may also persuade the consumer into unneeded services with and/or without their permission. (If you have knowledge of a practicing “blow-and-go” air duct cleaner, contact your local Better Business Bureau to report the company, and your local, federal, and state elected officials to demand legislation.)
If they have a website or not means absolutely zero. Check the BBB or search for company reviews on the internet. The internet is great for word of mouth and can save you a lot of time. Just make sure that the sources of information are credible ones and not competitors because the internet also breeds contempt.
A: Both the Environmental Pollution Agency (EPA) and your furnace manufacturer recommend having your furnace cleaned and inspected annually. According to the EPA ‘A buildup of .042 inches of dirt on a heating or cooling coil can result in a decrease in efficiency of 21%’.
AIRDUCT CLEAN has been specializing in residential & business air duct cleaning for many years. We are a company that is focused on safeguarding your home & business against pollutants that are often overlooked and we do so by air duct cleaning, vent disinfecting, dryer vent cleaning, and more.
If you follow the above four steps, then you will never need to clean your AC ducting.  But what about the conditions recommended by the NADCA for the use of a duct cleaning company?  I’ll spare you my typical, cynical rant about the role that lobbyists play in swaying such organizations, and get to the list.  Let’s take a look at each:
Cleaning your ductwork can damage it.  Secondly, the air duct cleaning procedure consists of sticking vacuum tubes down your ductwork, which can damage and crack the sensitive plastic interior of your ductwork.  It is also important to know that, despite what they might say, most duct cleaning companies are not HVAC contractors!  They actually know very little about the proper operation of your system.

“should i have air duct cleaning +air duct cleaning business”

Hi guys if your not convinced yet that duct cleaning is a waste of time. I’m a HVAC business owner install heaters and air conditioners. Simple facts if you have an old system get a new return air fitted with a filter it will catch all the dirt and dust. If you still have as many do black flecks and stuff coming through it is the lining inside your ducting that has perished. So somewhere you have a hole or very old ducting. If you had rats etc its a hole somewhere. To clean, stick your vacuum in the outlet and push the hose as far as it will go this gets 99% of toys and coins fur and alike. Think about it if the object is not heavy it will come out the duct when unit is on. Service the heaters or air con units but not the ducting. I would go further to say that duct cleaning actually damages the ducting in my opinion.

Homeowners who are having their ducts and vents cleaned can also opt to take advantage of other services offered by local cleaning companies. For example, Airclips Services on Ableta Boulevard also offers house cleaning services, bathroom and kitchen designing, and thermostat installation. D’s Enterprise, based out of nearby Wylie, also offers central air conditioning, gas furnace, electric furnace, and heat pump repair. These additional services can add several hundred dollars to the final bill. Dallas cleaning services average $149, while other repairs vary depending on the scope of the job.
The blower fan and evaporation coil are cleaned in place. Even a thin layer of dust here can reduce the efficiency of your HVAC system. Also, the continual presence of moisture during the cooling season can lead to mold growth on the evaporation coils.
More in-depth analysis of air cleaners is available in the EPA technical document “Residential Air Cleaners (Second Edition) A Summary of Available Information – Printable Version” EPA 402-F-09-002, Revised August 2009

Inspect the system before cleaning to be sure that there are no asbestos-containing materials (e.g., insulation, register boots, etc.) in the heating and cooling system. Asbestos-containing materials require specialized procedures and should not be disturbed or removed except by specially trained and equipped contractors.
Once located, use a wet/dry vacuum to clear the drain. It’s best to remove the paper filter from the wet/dry vacuum so as not to ruin the filter. Hold the hose of the wet/dry vacuum to the end of the drain line. You can use duct tape or simply hold a rag around the gap. Turn on the vacuum for 2-3 minutes then turn off. This will clear the drain of any growing biological matter.
I spent a lot of time reading all these posts and frankly I can’t believe the some people think. 1. If there is dust and dirt of any kind in my HVAC system I want it out, the mentality that it can stay there and it’s fine is fulish as the system turns on and off microscopic particulates will move in and out of your living space and you will definitely breath them in. The air quality of your home or office will only be as clean as the system that produces it. We don’t not clean things simply because we can’t see them, it’s what we can’t see that can do the most harm. Dust will build up in a system fairly quickly and will get damp at times allowing mold to grow and mold releases spores without any movement as part of its defense meconisam so don’t tell me that when your system turns on it won’t blow the spores out into the living spaces of your home. A build up of dust will cause failures to your system over time, equipment that works harder to do its job will run hotter with more strain and this will lead to brake downs and until then the system will run less efficient then it should. The system was engineered to move a certain volume of air through a specific duct size, when that duct size starts to become narowed down with dust build up your system has to work harder to move that air this is why you will end up with a loss of efficiency and eventually breakdowns or failures. I have seen systems develop a significant amount of dust build up in as little as two years, just look at how fast the filter gets clogged up and it isn’t all that hard to believe. As for all the scams that are out there they hurt the industry because people can’t decipher between them and the legitimate companies, BBB is helpful. Recommendations from HVAC contractors will be a good resource and a good company will provide a written estimate with a complete brake down of what they are going to do and why, most of which is comen sence once they explain it to you, then if you spend about 5 minutes watching them once they are set up you can see they are doing what they said they would do and let’s get real would you do a job that should take approx 3 hours per system for $29/$39/59 or something close to that, if you think you are going to get a good job from a comp that has to make money at that price you shouldn’t be mad at anyone but your self for trying to get quality work at a scam price. If it’s done right it will be very beneficial and depending on the size of your system and where you are in the world it’s going to cost you approx $300 to $600 per system large and or older systems may cost even more. Remember a quality job isn’t wasting money but a lousy job is, even if it’s only $29. I’d rather spend $600 on a quality job then $29 on a lousy job!! Good luck..

When these aren’t properly maintained and sanitized, they can build up dust, pollen, and even mold. This means when the air conditioner or heater turns on, the spores are released into the air for you to inhale. While some are less harmful, people who have allergies or sensitivity to certain spores will react negatively. Plus, mold is dangerous for anyone to ingest and should be avoided by regular maintenance.
Using our custom-built, high-powered vacuum trucks, we run a variety of high-pressure air tools through each duct, including brush systems and power whips. We utilize a high-powered vacuum system and a much larger vacuum hose that is 8 to 10 inches in diameter, pulling 12,000 cubic feet per minute.
Cleaning ducts and vents generally costs between $263 and $472, but as with many services, the bigger and dirtier the project, the more you’ll need to pay. When a professional comes to assess the needs of your system, they will consider:
Odors: Air cleaning devices designed for particle removal are incapable of controlling gases and some odors. The odor and many of the carcinogenic gas-phase pollutants from tobacco smoke will still remain.

Air duct cleaning services have sparked a bit of controversy in the world of heating, cooling, and ventilation. Thanks to some illegitimate duct cleaners, this industry has been given a bad reputation for dishonesty and deception. Four Seasons has sought to change all that by offering air duct cleaning services that are not only honest and up-front in every respect but that are also helpful in improving the home’s indoor air quality. Contact Four Seasons today to experience the Four Seasons difference and to schedule your free estimate!
Avoid Gimmicks: Ads for “$79 whole-house specials” are scams. At most a few ducts will get a very cursory vacuum; and at worst, you’ll end up talked into a much more expensive package. High-quality duct and HVAC cleaning should cost upwards of $500, take several hours with sophisticated equipment, and involve multiple workers.
